GENERALITY OF GRAPHIC VARIABLES ACROSS DRAWING TASKS

1968

Konttinen, R. & Olkinuora, E. Generality of graphic variables across drawing tasks. Scund. J. Psychol., 1968, 9, 161–168.—As a partial replication of the Takala & Rantanen (1964) study, the correlations between 6 graphic variables extracted from 6 drawing tasks differing in complexity were investigated. Four graphic trait factors were obtained I Size, II Pressure, III Discontinuous lines, and IV Angularity. Other graphic variables (nuancity and reinforcement) loaded factors II and III. The data lend support to the hypothesis that the same graphic traits should be interpreted in the same way irrespective of the complexity of the test. However, the complexity of the drawing task may make a di…

Non-Model Based Method for an Automation of 3D Acquisition and Post-Processing

2008

Most of the automation for 3D acquisition concerns objects with simple shape, like mechanical parts. For cultural heritage artefacts, the process is more complex, and it doesn't exist general solution nowadays. This paper presents a method to generate a complete 3D model of cultural heritage artefacts. In a first step, MVC is used to solve the view planning problem. Then, holes remaining in 3D model are detected, and their features are calculated to finish acquisition. Different post-processing are applied on each view to increase quality of the 3D model. This procedure has been tested with simulated scanner, before being implemented on a motion system with five degrees of freedom.

Acceptability Study of A3-K3 Robotic Architecture for a Neurorobotics Painting

2019

In this paper, authors present a novel architecture for controlling an industrial robot via Brain Computer Interface. The robot used is a Series 2000 KR 210-2. The robotic arm was fitted with DI drawing devices that clamp, hold and manipulate various artistic media like brushes, pencils, pens. User selected a high-level task, for instance a shape or movement, using a human machine interface and the translation in robot movement was entirely demanded to the Robot Control Architecture defining a plan to accomplish user's task. The architecture was composed by a Human Machine Interface based on P300 Brain Computer Interface and a robotic architecture composed by a deliberative layer and a reac…

Recent Developments in the Design and Control of Cold Forming Processes

1999

In the paper some problems of process design and control in metal forming are taken into account. In particular as far as the former aspect is concerned, the problem of the preform design in cold forging is analyzed: the contributions offered by several researchers are presented and an innovative design procedure is proposed. As well, the suitability of closed-loop control systems for metal forming applications is discussed with particular reference to sheet stamping operations; again, after an overview of the state of the art, the advantages offered by the application in this field of Artificial Intelligence techiniques is pointed out.

Smart Mobility Trends: Open Data and Other Tools

2018

The Strategic Implementation Plan for speeding up the transformation of European Cities into "Smart cities" establishes 6 Actions Clusters and 11 Priority Areas. Some of them are directly related to the transport and sustainable urban mobility. The main goal is the application of new technologies to minimize the loss of time and energy, and to improve the satisfaction of citizens. The use and reuse of information as open data, already collected from the Public Administration and private entities is a source of possibilities adding extra value. Technologies such as Bluetooth sensors, Open Data platforms etc., become essential elements to achieve this goal. This paper highlights the opportuni…

A motion planning algorithm for the invalid initial state disassembly problem

2015

Sampling-based motion planners are able to plan disassembly paths at high performance. They are limited by the fact that the input triangle sets of the static and dynamic object need to be free of collision in the initial and all following states. In real world applications, like the disassembly planning in car industry, this often does not hold true. Beside data inaccuracy, this is mainly caused by the modeling of flexible parts as rigid bodies, especially fixture elements like clips. They cause the invalid initial state disassembly problem. In the literature there exists no algorithm that is able to calculate a reasonable disassembly path for an invalid initial state. Our novel algorithm …

A survey on geometrical reconstruction as a core technology to sketch-based modeling

2005

In this work, the background and evolution of three-dimensional reconstruction of line drawings during the last 30 years is discussed. A new general taxonomy is proposed to make apparent and discuss the historical evolution of geometrical reconstruction and their challenges. The evolution of geometrical reconstruction from recovering know-how stored in engineering drawings to sketch-based modeling for helping in the first steps of conceptual design purposes, and the current challenges of geometrical reconstruction are discussed too.

Researching (Algebraic) Problem Solving from the Perspective of Local Theoretical Models

2010

Concepts such as Local Theoretical Model, Mathematical Sign System, logico-semiotic outline, analytical reading, and formal competence model, elaborated within long term research programs developed in Mexico and Spain, are presented. Empirical data from a study carried out in Spain with students of a teacher training school are analyzed using this theoretical framework. The cases analyzed show to which extent the logico-semiotic outline determines the arithmetic or algebraic nature of the entire problem solving process, even in the case of pupils which had been instructed in general problem solving heuristics, management and control, including the explicit training in changing the plan of s…

Universal design as resilient urban space plan strategy. New scenarios for environmental resources’ sustainable management

2021

Nowadays, urban framework, stressed by the growing anthropic pressure and its constantly evolving use requests is split by uneven structures, contexts, users and patchy needs, which come out to be inefficient and ineffective in access and management. This fact is directly connected both with morph-functional structure of urban texture and its continuous changing trends. The most important consequences of this situation are some negative effects that produce entropy, mistaken anthropic space uses, ecological networks decrease and most of all a substantial urban life quality reduction connected with mobility problems and non-resilient spaces' use at the different plan scales. These elements m…

Advanced Techniques used in Numerical Simulation for Deep-drawing Process

2019

The present paper analyse the main characteristics of the numerical simulation by finite element method of the deep-drawing processes. Also the authors’ highlights the mathematical apparatus and the calculus method used for numerical simulations of metal forming processes in many of the current simulation software. The authors present the capabilities of the inverse analysis, direct analysis, implicit analysis (for springback simulation) and the optimisation analysis applied to explicit formulations.
