This chapter conceptualizes the process of school burnout, dropout and school engagement in the context of the school demands-resources model, analogous to the job demands-resources model applied in the work and health research area. During recent years, the Department of Chemistry at the University of Jyväskylä has made an extensive effort to support chemistry students’ first study year. The first-year curriculum includes enhanced study counselling course, intensive orientation course and support for academic study skills via a specific course. In this study, the effects of the revisions were studied by exploring the chemistry students study continuation and what factors contributed to it. The objective of this thesis was on the one hand to identify the motives for dropout handballers and the basketballers Syrian women and to test on the other hand three theoretical models which explain the dropout of sport. A first study (N = 402) attempted to identify the reasons for dropout for these players. The results showed that the players estimate that certain reasons (e.g., to get pregnant, to have a husband which does not make it possible to his wife any more to make sport) are very important to give up sport. This study aimed to obtain novel understanding of the associations between psychological inflexibility and adolescents' engagement with upper secondary studies. A highly stable, low-noise voltage source was designed to improve the stability of the electrode bias voltages of a Penning trap. To avoid excess noise and ground loops, the voltage source is completely independent of the public electric network and uses a 12 V car battery to generate output voltages of +/-15 and +/-5 V. First, the dc supply voltage is converted into ac-voltage and gets amplified. Afterwards, the signal is rectified, filtered, and regulated to the desired output value.
