Hyaluronic acid and alpha-elastin based hydrogel for three dimensional culture of vascular endothelial cells

Abstract The aim of this work was to demonstrate that employing a copolymer of hyaluronic acid and α-elastin (HA-EDA-g-α-elastin) is possible to produce a scaffold able to support the adhesion and growth of human vascular endothelial cells (HUVEC) thanks to its ability to incorporate and control the diffusion of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Lupus anticoagulants (LAs) belong to acquired circulating anticoagulants interfering with phospholipid-dependent coagulation tests. Owing to the remarkable variability among patients, SSC guidelines recommend more than one test to detect and confirm the presence of LAs. However, this is an expensive procedure and greatly raises the work load of the laboratory. A standardised platelet-derived phospholipid preparation was obtained and platelet neutralisation (PNP) procedures with APTT and DRVVT reagents were performed on plasmas from 16 patients with LAs and from 41 control subjects. Force control and powder dispersibility of spray dried particles for inhalation

This study aims towards a deeper understanding of the correlation between particle morphology, cohesion forces, and aerosol performance of spray dried powders for inhalation. Therefore, forces affecting cohesion and dispersion are consid- ered and some novel contact models are introduced to explain the improved powder dispersibility of corrugated particles. Particles with different degrees of corrugation are prepared by spray drying and characterized. An Alginate/Cyclodextrin Spray Drying Matrix to Improve Shelf Life and Antioxidant Efficiency of a Blood Orange By-Product Extract Rich in Polyphenol…

Alginate and β-cyclodextrin were used to produce easily dosable and spray-dried microsystems of a dried blood orange extract with antidysmetabolic properties, obtained from a by-product fluid extract. The spray-dried applied conditions were able to obtain a concentrate dried extract without the loss of AOA and with TPC and TMA values of 35–40% higher than that of the starting material. They were also effective in producing microparticles with 80–100% of encapsulation efficiency. The 2% sodium alginate was capable of improving the extract shelf life, while the beta-cyclodextrin (1 : 1 molar ratio with dried extract) prolonged the extract antioxidant efficiency by 6 hours. Abstract Samples of unpurified and purified haemocyanin from the giant keyhole limpet Megathura crenulata have been studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) using mixtures of trehalose with the negative stains, uranyl acetate and ammonium molybdate. Trehalose is a known protein preservative during air and freeze drying, UV irradiation and high temperatures, and therefore offers the possibility of protecting proteins during the drying of negatively-stained specimens and their subsequent electron microscopical study. ABSTRACT: The aim of this research was to study the drying kinetics of apple and zucchini slices enriched with anthocyanins and to evaluate the influence of drying temperature on the anthocyanin content of apple and zucchini snacks. Apple (Granny Smith) and zucchini (Cucurbita pepo) slices were enriched with anthocyanins by vacuum impregnation with blueberry juice. Development of a new indole derivative dry powder for inhalation for the treatment of biofilm-associated lung infections

The aim of this work was to produce an inhalable dry powder formulation of a new anti-biofilm compound (SC38). For this purpose, chitosan was used as a polymeric carrier and l-leucine as a dispersibility enhancer. SC38 was entrapped by spray-drying into previously optimized chitosan microparticles. The final formulation was fully characterized in vitro in terms of particle morphology, particle size and distribution, flowability, aerodynamic properties, anti-biofilm activity and effects on lung cell viability.
