Uma Sistematização dos Estudos Nacionais em Psicologia Ambiental
2019
Spread of franchising: a multinational comparison based on the notions of innovation diffusion
1998
Investigates the globalization of franchising through a discussion of the literature on innovation diffusion. Proceeds then to evaluate the globalization of format franchising in 31 countries, drawing data from Arthur Andersen’s multi‐national study. Finds that the USA has the greatest number of franchisors and franchisees, Japan seems to have a different franchise structure when compared to the other countries studied, and Israel is a franchising novice. Presents a number of tables, accompanied by notes of caution on analysing the statistics. Mentions briefly some examples of franchises. Refers the findings back to the literature review to assess how well they match the theoretical descrip…
Intersubjective Parameters of the Life Processes
2002
The problem of the formation of community, communication, mutual understanding is one of the principal themes in contemporary philosophy. The urgency of the problem has probably sharpened due to the openly onesided tendencies of liberalism, individualism, the philosophy of subjectivity and the egology reigning in the last centuries. These philosophies focus on the self-sufficient individual, individual consciousness, Ego, the structures of mind, body, and consider that the basis of human community lies in the inner structures of a self-sufficient individual. The philosophy of subjectivity turns to man himself in the first place and then attempts to show the capacities (understanding, histor…
PPGIS applied to environmental communication and hazards for a community-based approach: a dualism in the Southern Italy "calanchi" landscape
2021
<p>The need of protection of the territory is a priority for the society, which is an integral part of it (unfortunately, this coincidence is often forgotten): the new environmental issues require the development of innovative management strategies and of appropriate knowledge and models. The balanced use of resources, essential for the survival and well-being of society, can be optimised through the promotion of the territory. The identification and the sustainable development of local resources can only be achieved by directing development policies towards a path of integration between ecological needs, protection of the landscape and socio-economic and cultural nee…

A cultural comparison study of smartphone adoption in Uzbekistan, South Korea and Turkey
2017
Smartphone popularity is increasing due to the technological advances that mean manufacturers can make more sophisticated devices, and telecommunication companies can provide better connections. Gartner reported that 403 million smartphones were sold in the fourth quarter of 2015, a 9.7% increase over the same period in 2014. It is a common perception that users tend to utilise advanced technology to increase productivity. However, there are studies indicating quite opposite or alternatively slow rates of adoption. To avoid this, companies invest in studying consumer behaviour. The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of drivers and cultural differences on smartphone acceptance in…
Cruise passengers' experiences in a Mediterranean port of call. The case study of Valencia
2014
Most cruise tourism studies have been restricted to one geographical region, the Caribbean, to a single cruise line, and to onboard experiences. Despite their relevance there has been little research on the Mediterranean region, on specific ports of call and on off-board experience. Furthermore, in the cruise context, there have been no studies on the role of culture in consumer behavior. Hoping to help fill this void, this research analyzed the influence of cruise passengers' image of a Mediterranean port of call on visit satisfaction and future behavioral intentions, and the moderating role of culture in causal relationships among these constructs. Data were collected in the port of Valen…
Survival Value and a Robust, Practical, Joyless Individualism: Thomas Nixon Carver, Social Justice, and Eugenics
2017
The aim of this paper is to provide a compressive assessment of Thomas Nixon Carver's thought—from his early formative years in the 1880s to his post WWII career as a journalist and pamphleteer. The main (albeit not exclusive) focus of this paper will be on the theoretical and philosophical coordinates of Carver's “new liberalism”—his own definition—and how this broad vision was intrinsically connected with an explicitly hierarchical and eugenic approach to human nature. Just as important, what follows is also an attempt to increase our general understanding of the extent in which eugenic considerations permeated the realm of political economy during the first decades of the last century an…

Martinus Garatus Laudensis on Treaties
2004
Introduction Martinus Garatus Laudensis' De confaederatione, pace et conventionibus principum is widely acknowledged as one of the first monographic works on the law of treaties. Whatever the merits of such a characterisation, there is a risk that it may obfuscate some of that work's essential features in its proper legal-historical context. Before considering the substance of the work, it is therefore necessary to consider some of its formal features, if only as a general methodological caveat. Martinus Garatus on the prince and the law Before the second half of the seventeenth century, legal monographs on treaties are scarce. That, of course, does not mean that the rich civil and canon la…
