Selective chlorine determination by gas diffusion in a tandem flow assembly and spectrophotometric detection with o-dianisidine

Abstract A fast, selective, sensitive and automated method for determination of free chlorine in industrial formulations and water samples is proposed. The automation of the flow assembly is based on the “tandem flow” approach, which uses a set of solenoid valves acting as independent switches. The operating cycle for obtaining a typical analytical transient signal can easily be programmed by means of friendly software running in the Windows environment. The manifold is provided with a gas diffusion unit which permits the removal of interfering species as well as concentrating the chlorine. Baeyer—Villiger Oxidation in Supercritical CO2 with Potassium Peroxomonosulfate Supported on Acidic Silica Gel.

Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) is an efficient reaction medium to perform the Baeyer-Villiger oxidation with hydrated silica-supported potassium peroxomonosulfate (h-SiO2.KHSO5) under flow-through conditions. Hydration modulates the reactivity of the active surface by softening the acidity of the KHSO4 present in the supported reagent. The reaction in scCO2 is much more efficient than in n-hexane under similar conditions, which is attributed to better transport and solvating properties of the supercritical medium with regard to n-hexane.

Improved resolution power of electrophoretic fractionation of DNA using a voltage gradient up and down application

The improved resolution power of electrophoretic fractionation of DNA in a wide range of molecular masses is demonstrated using an "up and down" application of voltage gradient gel electrophoresis (VGGE). This application also allows separation of different DNA fragments which are poorly fractionated in conventional electrophoresis.

Detection of Hepatitis B Virus DNA in the Liver of Children with Chronic Hepatitis B by In Situ Hybridization and Its Relation to Other Viral Markers

The aim of the study was to detect hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA by in situ hybridization (ISH) with a 35S-labeled radioactive probe in frozen liver biopsy tissue sections of 63 hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive children. The results were compared to other markers of viral replication. HBV DNA was detected in 48 children. Of the 15 negative cases, four had hepatitis B envelope antigen (HBeAg), 10 anti-HBe, and one neither HBeAg nor anti-HBe. Free HBV DNA in serum and liver was positive in one patient. International audience; We provide efficient synthetic access to heteroaryl sulfones in two-steps using a simple palladium-1,1'-bis [(diphenyl)phosphanyl]ferrocene catalyst to form in high yields variously functionalized heteroaromatic thioethers. Pyridinyl-containing substrates can be subsequently selectively oxidized into sulfones and NH-sulfoximines by using very mild oxidation conditions with a high functional group tolerance. In the palladium catalyzed C-S coupling of heteroaromatic thiols, reactivity limitation is attached with electron-deficient thiols. Iron-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling Reactions of Alkyl Grignards with Aryl Chlorobenzenesulfonates

Aryl sulfonate esters are versatile synthetic intermediates in organic chemistry as well as attractive architectures due to their bioactive properties. Herein, we report the synthesis of alkyl-substituted benzenesulfonate esters by iron-catalyzed C(sp2)–C(sp3) cross-coupling of Grignard reagents with aryl chlorides. The method operates using an environmentally benign and sustainable iron catalytic system, employing benign urea ligands. A broad range of chlorobenzenesulfonates as well as challenging alkyl organometallics containing β-hydrogens are compatible with these conditions, affording alkylated products in high to excellent yields. Palladium-catalysed direct cross-coupling of secondary alkyllithium reagents

Palladium-catalysed cross-coupling of secondary C(sp(3)) organometallic reagents has been a long-standing challenge in organic synthesis, due to the problems associated with undesired isomerisation or the formation of reduction products. Based on our recently developed catalytic C-C bond formation with organolithium reagents, herein we present a Pd-catalysed cross-coupling of secondary alkyllithium reagents with aryl and alkenyl bromides. The reaction proceeds at room temperature and on short timescales with high selectivity and yields. This methodology is also applicable to hindered aryl bromides, which are a major challenge in the field of metal catalysed cross-coupling reactions.

The Origin, Location, and Projections of the Embryonic Abdominal Motorneurons ofDrosophila

We have used a retrograde labeling technique to identify motorneurons for each of the 30 body wall muscles of an abdominal hemisegment in the late stage 16Drosophilaembryo. Each motorneuron has a characteristic cell body position, dendritic arborization, and axonal projection. In addition, we have determined the neuroblasts of origin for most of the motorneurons we describe.
