Isolation and characterization of N transporters putatively involved in the Hebeloma cylindrosporum-Pinus pinaster ectomycorrhizal association
2007
International audience; Studies of nitrogen metabolism in ectomycorrhizas have demonstrated that the fungal symbiont plays a fully integrated role in plant root metabolism and participates actively in the assimilation and transfer of newly absorbed nitrogen compounds by transferring amino acids. In symbiotic associations, such as mycorrhizas, location of the symbiosis ensures that mycelial growth of the fungus into soil provides access to nutrients in the soil solution. Changes in the distribution and activity of membrane-bound transport proteins in response to symbiotic interactions need to be investigated. In recent years several genes from H. cylindrosporum and P. pinaster, putatively in…

Diversity and complexity of microbial communities from a chlor-alkali tailings dump
2015
Abstract Revegetation of the tailings dumps produced by various industrial activities is necessary to prevent dust storms and erosion and represents a great challenge for ecological restoration. Little is known about the microbial colonisation and community structure of revegetated tailings following site exploitation. Here, we report the sequencing of 16S rRNA and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) fungal RNA gene amplicons from chlor-alkali residue and from an adjacent undisturbed soil to define the composition and assembly of the rhizosphere microbial communities. After quality filtering, a total of 72,373 and 89,929 bacterial sequences and 122,618 and 111,209 fungal sequences remained fo…

Present Uncertainty and Looking to the Past: The Ambiguous Literary Nationalism of Putnam’s Monthly
2023
Putnam’s Monthly (1853-1857) was one of the best literary and general interest magazines in antebellum America. Besides its high quality, what made the New York-based magazine stand out was its commitment to publishing American writers and focusing on American themes at a time when, with no reliable international copyright protection in place, many periodicals in the United States were in the habit of reprinting the works of foreign (primarily British) authors, sometimes without payment. However, despite its optimistic literary nationalism, Putnam’s Monthly expressed uncertainty about the quality of contemporary American literature and, indeed, about the capacity of American society to enco…
