MAP kinase p38 and its relation to T cell anergy and suppressor function of regulatory T cells
2008
Diverse regulatory T cell populations (Treg) are important for the control of self tolerance and immune homeostasis. These include naturally occurring CD4+CD25+ Treg (nTreg) and induced Treg (iTreg). Tolerogenic dendritic cells, modulated by IL-10, are able to convert peripheral T cells into iTreg. These are anergic and characterized by a G(1) cell cycle arrest, dependent on elevated levels of the cdk inhibitor p27(Kip1). Novel data revealed a distinct pattern of MAP kinase activation in iTreg different from clonal T cell anergy, with enhanced activation of the p38-MAPKAP-K2/3 pathway. p38 is involved in cell cycle control and its activity is a prerequisite for the induction and maintenance…

SEM study of species of Oswaldella Stechow, 1919 (Cnidaria, Hydrozoa,
<stro…
2015
Oswaldella is the most speciose genus, and one of the most characteristic, of hydrozoans inhabiting the Antarctic benthic marine ecosystem. Its species have relatively many important taxonomic characters allowing for their identification. Some of them, however, are difficult to study properly with a compound microscope. With the aim of improving scientific knowledge concerning species of the genus, a SEM survey of species of Oswaldella was carried out to study key morphological characters. Fourteen out of the 27 known nominal species were considered. The study has revealed unknown important characters, such as the presence of nematothecae associated with the nematophores at the cauline apop…
The Coble Quadric
2023
Given a smooth genus three curve $C$, the moduli space of rank two stable vector bundles on C with trivial determinant embeds in $\mathbb{P}^8$ as a hypersurface whose singular locus is the Kummer threefold of $C$; this hypersurface is the Coble quartic. Gruson, Sam and Weyman realized that this quartic could be constructed from a general skew-symmetric fourform in eight variables. Using the lines contained in the quartic, we prove that a similar construction allows to recover SU$_C(2, L)$, the moduli space of rank two stable vector bundles on C with fixed determinant of odd degree L, as a subvariety of $G(2, 8)$. In fact, each point $p \in C$ defines a natural embedding of SU$_C(2, \mathca…
Older adult psychopathology: international comparisons of self-reports, collateral reports, and cross-informant agreement
2020
ABSTRACTObjectives:To conduct international comparisons of self-reports, collateral reports, and cross-informant agreement regarding older adult psychopathology.Participants:We compared self-ratings of problems (e.g. I cry a lot) and personal strengths (e.g. I like to help others) for 10,686 adults aged 60–102 years from 19 societies and collateral ratings for 7,065 of these adults from 12 societies.Measurements:Data were obtained via the Older Adult Self-Report (OASR) and the Older Adult Behavior Checklist (OABCL; Achenbach et al., 2004).Results:Cronbach’s alphas were .76 (OASR) and .80 (OABCL) averaged across societies. Across societies, 27 of the 30 problem items with the highest mean ra…
Laser speckle imaging for early detection of microbial colony forming units
2021
In this study, an optical contactless laser speckle imaging technique for the early identification of bacterial colony-forming units was tested. The aim of this work is to compare the laser speckle imaging method for the early assessment of microbial activity with standard visual inspection under white light illumination. In presented research, the growth of Vibrio natriegens bacterial colonies on the solid medium was observed and analyzed. Both – visual examination under white light illumination and laser speckle correlation analysis were performed. Based on various experiments and comparisons with the theoretical Gompertz model, colony radius growth curves were obtained. It was shown that…
Laser speckle time-series correlation analysis for bacteria activity detection
2020
The study aims at development and laboratory approbation of non-contact optical technique for early evaluation of microbial activity. Microorganisms’ activity is estimated by laser speckle contrast imaging technique in combination with image processing of obtained time varying speckle patterns. Laser speckle patterns were captured by CMOS sensor during illumination of growing bacteria colonies by low power (<30 mW, 635 nm) stabilized coherent light source. To validate proposed technique and image processing algorithm the vibrio natriegens bacteria are used. After analysis of several different experiments the following results were obtained: In the central part of the colony activity can be …
Contenido factorial y comercio España-Mercosur
1999
Isometric endurance test of the cervical flexor muscles - Reliability and normative reference values.
2017
Abstract Objective To obtain reference values for the isometric endurance test (IET) of the cervical flexor muscles, investigate its reproducibility, and compare the results with the maximal isometric strength test (MIST) of the cervical flexor muscles. Design Cross-sectional non-comparative study with single group repeated measurements. Methods Altogether 219 healthy females aged 20–59 years volunteered to participate in the study. The IET was performed in the supine position and MIST seated. The reproducibility was evaluated by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and an analysis described by Bland and Altman. The relationship between the two measuring methods was evaluated by Pea…
Modular Strategies for Recursive Game Graphs
2006
AbstractMany problems in formal verification and program analysis can be formalized as computing winning strategies for two-player games on graphs. In this paper, we focus on solving games in recursive game graphs which can model the control flow in sequential programs with recursive procedure calls. While such games can be viewed as the pushdown games studied in the literature, the natural notion of winning in our framework requires the strategies to be modular with only local memory; that is, resolution of choices within a module does not depend on the context in which the module is invoked, but only on the history within the current invocation of the module. While reachability in (global…
MCD: Overcoming the Data Download Bottleneck in Data Centers
2013
The data download problem in data centers describes the increasingly common task of coordinated loading of identical data to a large number of nodes. Data download is seen as a significant problem in exascale HPC applications. Uncoor-dinated reading from a central file server creates contention at the file server and its network interconnect. We propose and evaluation a reliable multicast based approach to solve the data download problem. The MCD system builds a logical multi-rooted tree based on the physical network topology and uses the logical view for a two-phase approach. In the first phase, the data is multicasted to all nodes. In the second phase, the logical tree is used for an effi…
