Background Adding cyclic short sustained inflations (sigh) to assisted ventilation yields optimizes lung recruitment, decreases heterogeneity and reduces inspiratory effort in patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure (AHRF). These findings suggest that adding sigh to pressure support ventilation (PSV) might decrease the risk of lung injury, shorten weaning and improve clinical outcomes. Effect of an insect growth regulator (halofenozide) on the cuticular hydrocarbons of Culex pipiens larvae

The cuticular hydrocarbons of the fourth-instar larvae of Culex pipiens aged one and six days were analysed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The effect of an insect growth regulator (halofenozide = RH-0345) on the cuticular hydrocarbons was evaluated using newly moulted fourth-instar larvae of C. pipiens, at the lethal concentrations (LC50 = 12.58 and LC90 = 28.58 mu g/l). A previous study revealed that RH-0345 is toxic to larvae of C. pipiens by induction of precocious larval moulting. Il contributo affronta la questione dell'irretroattività della legge relativamente al c.d. 'decreto sicurezza' attraverso l'analisi della recente pronuncia delle Sezioni Unite della Corte di Cassazione sul tema. Evidenziando il carattere di diritto umano fondamentale proprio dell'istituto della protezione internazionale, si sottolinea la sua natura di diritto soggettivo e, dunque, la necessità - avvertita sia a livello costituzionale, sia comunitario - che esso sia salvaguardato sin dal primo momento della sua richiesta, a prescindere da successive modificazioni in itinere della legislazione relativa.

BackgroundPrevious studies suggest that engagement in any type of physical activity can be protective against mental health issues, whereas elite-level athletes can endure various mental health challenges. The aim of this study was to determine variations in the prevalence of psychological distress among elite sambo athletes and their recreational counterparts.MethodsA sample consisting of 245 athletes (127 males and 118 females) was chosen. Out of the total sample, 105 were elite-level athletes while 140 were recreational athletes.
