Porifera Lectins: diversity, physiological roles and biotechnological potential
2015
An overview on the diversity of 39 lectins from the phylum Porifera is presented, including 38 lectins, which were identified from the class of demosponges, and one lectin from the class of hexactinellida. Their purification from crude extracts was mainly performed by using affinity chromatography and gel filtration techniques. Other protocols were also developed in order to collect and study sponge lectins, including screening of sponge genomes and expression in heterologous bacterial systems. The characterization of the lectins was performed by Edman degradation or mass spectrometry. Regarding their physiological roles, sponge lectins showed to be involved in morphogenesis and cell intera…
Assays of Proteasome-Dependent Cleavage Products
2005
The degradation of misfolded, aged, or no longer needed cytosolic proteins depends largely on the ubiquitin-proteasome system. Proteasomes degrade their substrates into fragments of 3-20 amino acids. Human 20S proteasomes can be purified from human erythrocytes by batch adsorption to DEAE-cellulose, ammonium sulfate precipitation, anion-exchange fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC), and glycerol density gradient ultracentrifugation. 20S proteasomes purified by this method are suitable for the in vitro digestion of synthetic peptides as well as full-length proteins. The degradation products produced by proteasomes are separated by reversed-phase HPLC using an acetonitrile gradient. The …
Pyrgomorphid grasshoppers of the genus Phymateus contain species-specific decapeptides of the AKH/RPCH family regulating lipid-mobilization during fl…
1996
. Using heterologous and conspecific bioassays, two peptides have been isolated from methanolic extracts of corpora cardiaca from the pyrgomorphid grasshopper Phymateus morbillosus L.The structures of both peptides were elucidated by a combination of Edman degradation, after deblocking the N-terminal pyroglutamic acid residue, and mass spectrometric techniques. One peptide is an octapeptide (pGlu-Leu-Asn-Phe-Ser-Thr-Gly-TrpNH2) which also occurs in other insects and is code-named Scg-AKH-II.The second peptide is a novel decapeptide member of the AKH/RPCH family (pGlu-Leu-Asn-Phe-Thr-Pro-Asn-Trp-Gly-SerNH2 code-named here Phm-AKH.It is the first example of a different peptide in the same genu…

The chapter explicates the central resources that classical Husserlian phenomenology and its contemporary elaborations offer for the study of psychic disorders. We shall first discuss the phenomenological principles that enable analysis of the conditions and limits of experiencing and sense-constitution. We shall then clarify the concepts that phenomenologists have developed for the discussion of the normality and abnormality of experiencing—optimality and concordance—while also paying heed to the types of phenomena that classical and contemporary phenomenologists have tackled while developing their methods. In this vein, we will emphasize methodological factors that separate phenomenologic…

Sosiaalisen kognition konstituutio enaktivistisessa vuorovaikutusteoriassa : Edmund Husserlin habituaatio-analyysi enaktivistisen interaktionismin yd…
2016
Näihin enaktivistisen vuorovaikutustutkimuksen osa-alueisiin liittyy nykyisellään käsitteellisiä epäselvyyksiä, joihin on kohdistettu runsaasti kritiikkiä. Tutkielma argumentoi, että kritiikkiin vastaamiseksi enaktivistisen vuorovaikutusteorian presuppositioita ja implikaatioita on selvitettävä aiempaa yksityiskohtaisemmin. Tämä edellyttää enaktivistisen teorian…
Integrated geophysical survey for 3D modelling of a coastal aquifer polluted by seawater
2013
Geophysical surveys are carried out in the coastal area of Petrosino (south-western Sicily) to study the time evolution of seawater contamination of the coastal aquifer, probably increased due to human impact. The overexploitation of the aquifer, due to an intensive agricultural use has affected significantly the natural hydro-geochemical state of the basin. The study is based on a processing and integrated analysis of hydrogeological, geochemical and geophysical data. In particular in the last two years seasonal time-lapse electrical resistivity tomographies (ERT), new TDEM soundings and Multi-Analysis Surface Wave soundings (MASW) have been carried out. The interpretation of the total set…
Innowacyjne kształcenie artystyczno - pedagogiczne nauczycieli szkoły podstawowej
2015
The article deals with the problem of the artistic and p edagogical training of the primary school teachers in the modernization of educational system in Ukraine and integration into the global educational community. A scientific explanation of the functional-content features of the artistic and educational activities is argued, the original interpretation of the content and the forms of classes is provided, the pedagogical conditions and the ways of optimization of the artistic and pedagogical training are revealed.
Inquiry Based Learning and Responsible Research and Innovation: Examples of Interdisciplinary Approaches at Different Schooling Levels
2021
The Inquiry-Based approach to Science Education (IBSE) is presented in scienti#c literature (Hake, 1998; Sharma et al., 2010) and in research projects reports (e.g. ESTABLISH, 2010; SAILS, 2014) as a credible solution to the reported lack of ef#cacy of more ‘traditional’ educative approaches, especially when focused on Research and Innovation (RRI) (Sutcliffe, 2006; IRRESISTIBLE, 2013; Ark of Inquiry, 2013). IBSE is an inductive approach to science teaching that considers direct experience at the center of learning. IBSE activities and strategies actively involve students in the identi#cation of relevant evidence, in critical and logical reasoning on the evidence collected and in re+ection …
