Suomalainen aikakauslehti, lukijan tarpeet ja mediamurros

2016

This thesis discusses commercial Finnish magazines in the midst of media disruption. First, this research clarifies what has been the core content of printed magazines. Then this study focuses on finding out what kind of reader needs the producers of these magazines tried to satisfy. The purpose of this study is to discuss, whether the core content of magazines and the methods of satisfying the readers’ needs could be transferred to the digital media environment and in what way. The theoretical framework of this study is the notion of media concept. It allows viewing magazines as a vast whole and demonstrates a relationship between content and the audience’s needs. In addition, this study u…

CT-GUIDED TRANSTHORACIC NEEDLE BIOPSY: ADVANTEGES IN HISTOPATHOLOGICAL AND MOLECULAR TESTS

2020

Aim: The present study aimed to demonstrate that computed tomography-guided transthoracic needle biopsy (TTNB) is a safe procedure that gives a more accurate pre-operative tissue diagnosis for peripheral lung nodules than transthoracic needle aspiration, obtaining suitable samples for molecular test in lung adenocarcinomas. Patients and methods: Between December 2016 and March 2018 at Thoracic Surgery Department of the University of Palermo - Policlinico Paolo Giaccone Hospital, TTNB was performed in 42 patients with computed tomography-detected peripheral lung nodules > 10 mm, using 16-18 -Gauge tru-Cut needles. Results: With TTNB, we have estimated an accuracy for tissue diagnosis of 9…

El análisis marxista de las necesidades sociales

2018

The disappearance of the so-called «real socialism» has concealed the validity of the Marxist analysis of social reality. One of the sets of hypotheses that has best maintained its heuristic capacity is the Marxist theory of needs. The Marxist hypotheses have been developed in debate with other conventional conceptions. Currently, feminism and the ecological analysis of needs are renewing the views of Heller and Habermas.

Major loss of coralline algal diversity in response to ocean acidification

2021

[Abstract] Calcified coralline algae are ecologically important in rocky habitats in the marine photic zone worldwide and there is growing concern that ocean acidification will severely impact them. Laboratory studies of these algae in simulated ocean acidification conditions have revealed wide variability in growth, photosynthesis and calcification responses, making it difficult to assess their future biodiversity, abundance and contribution to ecosystem function. Here, we apply molecular systematic tools to assess the impact of natural gradients in seawater carbonate chemistry on the biodiversity of coralline algae in the Mediterranean and the NW Pacific, link this to their evolutionary h…

Analysis of Somatosensory Cortical Responses to Different Electrotactile Stimulations as a Method Towards an Objective Definition of Artificial Senso…

2022

Sensory feedback is a critical component in many human-machine interfaces (e.g., bionic limbs) to provide missing sensations. Specifically, electrotactile stimulation is a popular feedback modality able to evoke configurable sensations by modulating pulse amplitude, duration, and frequency of the applied stimuli. However, these sensations coded by electrotactile parameters are thus far predominantly determined by subjective user reports, which leads to heterogeneous and unstable feedback delivery. Thus, a more objective understanding of the impact that different stimulation parameters induce in the brain, is needed. Analysis of cortical responses to electrotactile afference might be an effe…

Decoding attentional states for neurofeedback : Mindfulness vs. wandering thoughts

2019

Neurofeedback requires a direct translation of neuronal brain activity to sensory input given to the user or subject. However, decoding certain states, e.g., mindfulness or wandering thoughts, from ongoing brain activity remains an unresolved problem. In this study, we used magnetoencephalography (MEG) to acquire brain activity during mindfulness meditation and thought-inducing tasks mimicking wandering thoughts. We used a novel real-time feature extraction to decode the mindfulness, i.e., to discriminate it from the thought-inducing tasks. The key methodological novelty of our approach is usage of MEG power spectra and functional connectivity of independent components as features underlyin…

Motor imagery in unipolar major depression

2014

International audience; Background: Motor imagery is a potential tool to investigate action representation, as it can provide insights into the processes of action planning and preparation. Recent studies suggest that depressed patients present specific impairment in mental rotation. The present study was designed to investigate the influence of unipolar depression on motor imagery ability. Methods: Fourteen right-handed patients meeting DSM-IV criteria for unipolar depression were compared to 14 matched healthy controls. Imagery ability was accessed by the timing correspondence between executed and imagined movements during a pointing task, involving strong spatiotemporal constraints (spee…

Role of Natural Cross Linkers in Resin–Dentin Bond Durability: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

2022

Background: The role of endogenous Matrix Metallo Proteinases in resin dentin bond deterioration over time has been well documented. The present study aimed to systematically review the literature; in vitro and ex vivo studies that assessed the outcomes of natural cross-linkers for immediate and long-term tensile bond strength were included. Methods: The manuscript search was carried out in six electronic databases—PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO, Cochrane, Web of Science and DOAJ, without publication year limits. Only manuscripts in English (including the translated articles) were selected, and the last search was performed in December 2020. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Revi…

Monitoring a meat-free pledge with smartphones:An experimental study

2020

Pledges are a popular strategy to encourage meat reduction, though experimental studies of their efficacy are lacking. Three-hundred and twenty-five participants from three different countries (UK, Germany, Australia) were randomly assigned to pledge 28 days meat-free or not, and their behavior was tracked via smartphones. Participants answered daily surveys regarding their eating behavior, meat cravings, and shared photos of their meals. Baseline data was collected prior to the pledge, after the 28 days, and one-month post-intervention. Participants assigned to the pledge condition ate less meat across the 28 days, compared to control participants. Meat reductions, observed at outtake, did…
