2023

Pregnant, away from home. Maternal Health Care in Norway : Exploring migrant women's experiences of the maternal health care system in Norway

2021

Master's thesis in Global Development and Planning (UT505) This master thesis explores migrant women’s experiences with the maternal health care system in Norway, using a qualitative research strategy. It is based on interviews conducted with migrant women living in Kristiansand, who have given birth in Norway, as well as interviews with health workers in the maternal health service. The migrant women shared their personal experiences from pregnancy to childbirth whiles the health workers also gave their personal experiences related to providing antenatal and post-natal care. This was specific to migrant women living in Norway. My study adopts the ‘Quality of Care’ framework with a focus on…

2020

Cultivation and co-creation of education between academy and nursing home-a critical ethnography study Collaboration between academy and practicein education is emphasized. In this study, weexplored and described boundary-crossing spaces, when co-creating an adjusted educational program for nursing students in a nursing home in Norway. Our aim was to explore how to learn person-centered dementia care through the participants in a learning community. A critical ethnographic approach and method with observations, field notes, minutes of board, spontaneous meetings, and focus groups particularly with the students were used. Data were analyzed with six-step thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke…

User-centred Design of a Digital Care Plan for Patients and Professionals in Cross-organisational Teams

2021

Care for patients with multimorbidity and long-term complex needs is costly and with demographic changes this group is growing. The research project Dignity Care addresses how to improve the care for this patient group by studying how a conceptual shared digital care plan for complex clinical pathways can guide and support cross-organisational care teams. This paper presents the user-centred design process for the digital care plan development. Panels of patients and health care professionals will participate in co-creation user workshops and simulation of complex patients’ pathways. The main contribution from this work is recommendations for how to actively involve user groups in digital h…

Materialities matter : An exploration of supported housing for people with mental health problems

2020

Background: In the second half of the twentieth century, supported housing was founded as a comprehensive approach to people with mental health problems, who could receive help in the communities. These living places are situated in post-asylum geographies and differ not only in regard to the quality of healthcare services but also in regard to their ordinary materialities, such as surroundings, buildings, rooms and objects. Aim: The aim of this thesis was to explore and understand how materialities in terms of the human–nonhuman interplay influence the living situations of people with mental health problems as tenants in supported housing. This overall research problem was addressed by thr…

2020

This chapter explores the criteria for promotion to docent (dosent in Norwegian), a variant of the professor position. The criteria are based on a different path of qualification to a top academic position where neither a PhD nor a specific number of referee-assessed research articles are required. Four questions are discussed in the chapter: 1) What characterizes the docent position? 2) What kinds of competence does a docent possess? 3) Why do academic institutions need docents? 4) Do the flexible interpretations of the promotion criteria represent challenges? The authors’ answers to these questions show that docents are expected to possess a wider repertoire of competences than a professo…
