2021
Master's thesis in Health informatics (HSI500) Background: Structuring the electronic health record is highlighted as a key prerequisite for achieving the goals described in the white paper «Én innbygger-én journal». The work of developing structured information in electronic patient records will require close collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure that the work processes are communicated and considered in the development process. Purpose: Structured clinical information will be searchable and enables extraction for primary and secondary use. Healthcare professionals' participation in the development process is important to facilitate their work processes. This study has the …

2020
Master's thesis in Health informatics (HSI500) Background Errors and nonconformities in drug administration cause many undesirable incidents in hospitals. Digital technology has a role in preventing drug errors. In 2017, the Health South-East introduced an electronic medical record (EMR) which supports physician order entry (CPOE), as well as facilitated barcode-assisted medication administration (BCMA) at a hospital in the region. The goal was to reduce drug errors through increased support in digital technology, such as scanning of single dose packed drugs and patient identification bracelets. The purpose of this master thesis was to survey experiences with the use of BCMA. Special emphas…

2021
Master's thesis in Health informatics (HSI501) Background In recent years, the development of ICT has increased to a greater extent. This means that electronic interaction between various factors in Norway is becoming an increasingly important part of society, not least in the health sector. In the healthcare system, large parts of everyday work are carried by information technology, such as electronic curves and medication solutions. Most hospitals in “Helse Sør-Øst” have used this tool called MetaVision. The goal of MetaVision is to be fully implemented in all hospitals in “Helse Sør-Øst” by 2021. MetaVision replaces curve data on paper for patients at hospitals. Hospitals in the various …
2021
Master's thesis in Health informatics (HSI501) Background: Healthcare professionals need quick and easy access to health-and patient related information in emergency departments. There is a need for ICT tools that support the work processes and provide access to the information. At the same time the information need must be provided quickly. Critical information or alert information is a particularly important basis for decision-making. If this information is missing or otherwise incomplete, the risk of incorrect or delayed treatment increases. Purpose and goals: The knowledge acquired will provide a deeper understanding of the workflow of nurses in the emergency department and the work pro…
Experiences of Norwegian child and school health nurses with the "Starting Right" child health assessment innovation: a qualitative interview study
2022
Abstract Background Although child health services are well established in Norway, the use of information technology for the systematic collection of evidence-based child- and proxy-reported health measures may be beneficial in the early identification of child development problems. The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of child and school health nurses with the Starting Right innovation. Peer support in an outpatient clinic for people living with human immunodeficiency virus: a qualitative study of service users’ experiences
2022
Abstract Background Although human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has become a manageable condition with increasing life expectancy, people living with HIV (PLHIV) are still often isolated from society due to stigma and discrimination. Peer support provides one avenue for increased social support. Given the limited research on peer support from the perspective of PLHIV, this study explored their experiences of peer support organised by healthcare professionals in an outpatient clinical setting. Methods The study used a qualitative, descriptive research design for an in-depth understanding of peer support provided to PLHIV in the context of outpatient clinics. Healthcare professionals contribu…
Motivating Physical Activity for Individuals with Intellectual Disability through Indoor Bike Cycling and Exergaming.
2022
People with intellectual disabilities have more sedentary lifestyles than the general population. Regular physical activity is of both medical and social importance, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and promoting functioning in everyday life. Exergames have been envisioned for promoting physical activity; however, most of them are not user-friendly for individuals with intellectual disabilities. In this paper, we report the design, development, and user acceptance of a mobile health solution connected to sensors to motivate physical activity. The system is mounted on an indoor stationary bicycle and an ergometer bike tailored for people with intellectual disabilities. The develop…
