Background Due to the low potential for primary biological healing of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), the most popular approach is currently reconstruction using a graft. Recent research indicates that the technique of strengthening a damaged ligament with synthetic tapes (internal bracing) may be an alternative to reconstructive treatment, especially in cases of partial ACL damage. Measuring, comparing and interpreting phenotypic selection on floral scent

Natural selection on floral scent composition is a key element of the hypothesis that pollinators and other floral visitors drive scent evolution. The measure of such selection is complicated by the high-dimensional nature of floral scent data and uncertainty about the cognitive processes involved in scent-mediated communication. We use dimension reduction through reduced-rank regression to jointly estimate a scent composite trait under selection and the strength of selection acting on this trait. Darba mērķis: no Latvijas Universitātes un ERAF projekta „Skolas vecuma bērnu redzes un redzes uztveres traucējumu pētīšana un diagnostikas metodikas izstrāde” Nr.2011/0004/2DP/2.1.1.1.0/10/APIA/VIAA/027 savāktiem datiem izveidot rekomendācijas par redzes skrīninga protokola uzlabošanu. Iegūtie rezultāti liecina, ka skolas vecuma bērniem ir jāpārbauda redze katrā vecuma posmā. Can we increase children’s rights endorsement and knowledge?: A pilot study based on the reference framework of competences for democratic culture

This pilot study is the first to examine whether a novel curriculum based on the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC) could increase children’s endorsement and knowledge of children’s rights. We conducted a pre-test-post-test design with an intervention and a comparison school. Pupils (n = 172) from Bulgaria, Italy, Norway, Romania, and Spain attended schools in which the curriculum was taught, whereas pupils in the comparison group (n = 120) attended schools in the same city where the curriculum was not taught. Locating the nodes of outdoor wireless sensor networks (WSNs) using (tri)lateration with a low-cost ranging technique, such as the received signal strength indicator (RSSI), often results in inaccurate location estimates. This can mostly be explained by the combined effect of distance estimate errors and localization geometry, both of which are subject to the reference nodes used. Notre étude de cas conduite en 2015 et 2016 au sein de la communauté urbaine Creusot Montceau (région Bourgogne Franche-Comté) montre comment la médiation numérique change les rapports que les individus et leurs collectifs entretiennent avec l’espace qu’ils produisent et vivent au quotidien. A partir d’une analyse qualitative de ce qui se joue dans les espaces publics numériques, dans la stratégie touristique numérique et dans la production d’une information hyperlocale, notre travail interroge la notion de territorialité numérique dans ce qu’elle donne à voir des représentations de la réalité territoriale.
