07. Social freedom in contemporary capitalism: A reconstruction of Axel Honneth’s normative approach to the economy

This paper discusses two related issues, namely how to adequately describe the economy within the framework of a critical social theory, and how to understand the interrelation between the socio-economic and political dimensions of democracy. Concerning the first issue Honneth stresses the moral quality of social integration, and concerning the second issue he develops a conception of ‘democratic Sittlichkeit.’ In reconstructing these issues, both the promises and problems of Honneth’s work for analyzing and criticizing contemporary developments in the economy are explored. La afirmó contra Kant, desde luego; a saber, contra la posibilidad de que lo que parece teleológico sea sólo mecánico; pero no en el sentido de un compromiso dogmático con la realidad de fines naturales y tampoco en el de una refutación del mecanicismo como la que Fichte busca con su radicalización de la filosofía trascendental. Nel saggio seguono sono collezionate alcune idee di Simone Weil intorno al tema della ragione elaborate soprattutto durante gli ultimi anni della sua vita (1941-1943). La ragione naturale viene contrapposta alla ragione soprannaturale contrario della trionfale sintesi hegeliana. Questa si costituisce come arresa vincente: dopo essersi dichiarati sconfitti, manifestata la propria impotenza di soluzione dell’ossimoro e divenuti ormai completamente coscienti del limite, si viene trasportati nell’immenso universo che contiene tutti gli opposti.

Con un rinnovato approfondimento delle nozioni kantiane di 'Praktische' e 'Materie', 'Welt' e 'Glückseligkeit' l'autore rivendica l'attenzione del filosofo di Königsberg al raggiungimento concreto della moralità.

Uno strano destino ha voluto che l’ultima frase scritta da Friedrich Schlegel la sera prima della morte, l’11 gennaio 1829, fosse una sorta di epitome di tutta la sua esistenza e di tutta la sua filosofia: «Das ganz vollendete und vollkommne Verstehen selbst aber [...]»1 che si potrebbe tradurre: «La compiuta e perfetta comprensione in quanto tale tuttavia [...]». Poco importa se l’emblema che chiude l’opera ci ricorda che questa “perfetta e compiuta” conoscenza è affidata, per l’ormai cattolico Schlegel, a Dio, cui l’anima si rivolge dopo aver spezzato le catene della mondanità. With regard to Adorno's text, the exergo to the essay on Schoenberg and, in a more general sense, the attempt to bring the "neue Musik" back to the framework of a Hegelian philosophy are analyzed.
