Patterns in Size and Shedding of Fasciola hepatica Eggs by Naturally and Experimentally Infected Murid Rodents

Using samples collected on the island of Corsica, a comparative study was done of the morphometry of Fasciola hepatica eggs shed by cattle and by naturally and experimentally infected murid rodents (wild Mus musculus and Rattus rattus and Rattus norvegicus Wistar laboratory strain). Eggs shed by murids are smaller in size than those shed by naturally infected cattle. A second study analyzed the number of F. hepatica eggs shed in murid feces at different time intervals, i.e., months, days, and 6-hr periods, by the Kato-Katz technique. Dalle indagini psico-sociali che presentano un monitoraggio della condizione giovanile nel nostro paese, emerge una difficoltà nei preadolescenti, negli adolescenti e nei giovani nel rapportarsi alla storia: una dispercezione della storia passata che tende a cancellare la memoria. Nel testo si propone di riprendere la categoria di risorgimento come atteggiamento adeguato per cogliere il senso del tempo e della storia: perché quanto non si è esplicato in tutte le sue potenzialità ed è rimasto virtuale possa ritornare in vita, in nuove forme inedite. In questa cornice generale, "risorgimento" diventa un compito culturale ed educativo oggi sempre aperto.

Recovery of anthocyanins from eggplant peel

Abstract Tartaric and malic acid solutions were tested to extract anthocyanins from eggplant peel by a discontinuous process to obtain a natural red colorant. Extraction optimization was carried out, using different solvents, acid concentration, temperature, time of extraction and solvent-to-solid ratio as independent variables. Tartaric acid was more efficient than malic acid in both extraction yield and rate. Comparative tests were carried out using acidified ethanol as solvent. This paper critically reviews the outcomes of internationally-funded interventions aimed at climate change adaptation and vulnerability reduction. It highlights how some interventions inadvertently reinforce, redistribute or create new sources of vulnerability. Four mechanisms drive these maladaptive outcomes: (i) shallow understanding of the vulnerability context; (ii) inequitable stakeholder participation in both design and implementation; (iii) a retrofitting of adaptation into existing development agendas; and (iv) a lack of critical engagement with how ‘adaptation success’ is defined.
