Cohomology of Filippov algebras and an analogue of Whitehead's lemma
2009
We show that two cohomological properties of semisimple Lie algebras also hold for Filippov (n-Lie) algebras, namely, that semisimple n-Lie algebras do not admit non-trivial central extensions and that they are rigid i.e., cannot be deformed in Gerstenhaber sense. This result is the analogue of Whitehead's Lemma for Filippov algebras. A few comments about the n-Leibniz algebras case are made at the end.
External derivations of internal groupoids
2008
If His a G-crossed module, the set of derivations of Gin H is a monoid under the Whitehead product of derivations. We interpret the Whitehead product using the correspondence between crossed modules and internal groupoids in the category of groups. Working in the general context of internal groupoids in a finitely complete category, we relate derivations to holomorphisms, translations, affine transformations, and to the embedding category of a groupoid. Satisfied or Frustrated? A Qualitative Analysis of Need Satisfying and Need Frustrating Experiences of Engaging With Digital Health Technology in Chr…
2020
Introduction: Digital health technologies such as self-monitoring devices and apps are becoming increasingly important as tools to promote healthy habits and support individuals in their self-care. There is still a scarcity of research that builds on motivational theory to better understand the functioning of digital health technologies. The self-determination theory (SDT) is a macro theory of motivation that delineates three basic psychological needs that are linked to different types of motivation and lead to well-being when satisfied and illbeing when frustrated. Objective: To explore how the use of a digital tool for self-monitoring and communication with healthcare satisfies or frustra…
ENGLISH LANGUAGE FOR SUCCESSFUL INTEGRATION: LEARNING FROM THE BOLOGNA PROCESS
2011
The Bologna Process aims to provide tools to connect the European national educational systems. The purpose of this paper is to analyze what we have learned and what challenges remain today. Since the beginning all participating countries had to agree on a comparable three cycle degree system for undergraduates (Bachelor degrees or Grades) and graduates (Master and PhD degrees) in order to create compatibility and comparability for achieving international competitiveness and a worldwide degree of attractiveness in higher education. The Bologna Declaration, originally signed by 29 countries, has now reached 47 countries, engaged in the process of creating a European Higher Education Area (EH…
eHealth-Extended Care Coordination: Development of a Collaborative System for Inter-municipal Dementia Teams: A Research Project with a User-Centered…
2015
- In Norway, a health reform was recently adopted to improve continuity of care. Services that were carried out in hospitals were transferred to municipalities. Small and medium size municipalities have established inter-municipal cooperation to provide specialized services across borders. The research project eHealth-extended Care Coordination studied the inter-municipal cooperation for assessment of dementia, identifying a need for improved communication and coordination. This paper presents the development process of a collaborative information system for dementia assessment using a user-centered design approach. Mixed methods, such as observations, semi-structured interviews and questio…

Combining Digitization with Healthcare Service Processes : Value Co-creation Opportunities Through Standard Work
2017
The study explores some implications of digitized healthcare services for value co-creation opportunities and work standardization and introduces DARIO, a value co-creation model of digitized services. The key development is the model’s focus on service processes that emerge through standardized work, providing opportunities for value co-creation. The DARIO model seeks to combine the theory of value co-creation and operations through lean standard work. The digitization of healthcare services is typically discussed from technological, medical science or customer perspectives, but opportunities for professionals to participate or to perform in the value co-creation process are less widely st…
Information Infrastructures and the Challenge of the Installed Base
2017
In this chapter we present the theoretical perspective of information infrastructures, which is used to analyze the empirical cases in the book. In this perspective, information technology is seen as intimately intertwined with organizational structures, procedures and work practices, and as an underlying, supporting and often invisible infrastructure. Information infrastructures are not only local, but shared among distributed actors which can have multiple and different needs and interests. Understanding the complexities and mechanisms involved in the evolution of information infrastructures is at the core of this perspective which challenges traditional management approaches. Instead of …
Re-Infrastructuring for eHealth: Dealing with Turns in Infrastructure Development
2017
In this paper, we examine infrastructuring in the context of developing national, public eHealth services in Norway. Specifically, we analyze the work of a project team engaged in the design and development of new web-based capabilities for communication between citizens and primary healthcare practitioners. We frame the case as a study of re-infrastructuring to signify a particular occasion of infrastructuring that entails facilitating a new logic within established social and technological networks. To make sense of the particularities of re-infrastructuring, we draw from research in infrastructure studies which considers embeddedness as a resource in infrastructure evolution. We analyze …
Prioritization of actions needed to develop IT skills among healthcare workforce
2015
Background: Health related information and communication technology is globally an important and growing sector. With the promise of more efficient and cost-effective care, eHealth is becoming a key priority to address the current challenges faced by health systems worldwide. Addressing IT skills for health care workforce is seen as an important element of achieving greater social inclusion. Objective: To identify and prioritize the actions needed to improve the IT skills of health care workforce across the EU from different perspectives of experts in health care. Methods: A diverse group of experts, representing different fields of expertise in health care and geographical locations partic…
