Assessment of Gully Erosion Susceptibility Using Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines and Accounting for Terrain Connectivity
2017
In this work, we assessed gully erosion susceptibility in two adjacent cultivated catchments of Sicily (Italy) by employing multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) and a set of geo-environmental variables. To explore the influence of hydrological connectivity on gully occurrence we measured the changes of performance occurred when adding one by one nine predictors reflecting terrain connectivity to a base model that included contributing area and slope gradient. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and the area under the ROC curve (AUC) were used to evaluate models performance. Gully predictive models were trained in both the catchments and submitted to internal (in the ca…
Statistical learning and multiple linear regression model for network selection using MIH
2014
Award of Appreciation; International audience; A key requirement to provide seamless mobility and guaranteeing Quality of Service in heterogeneous environment is to select the best destination network during handover. In this paper, we propose a new schema for network selection based on Multiple Linear Regression Model (MLRM). A horough investigation, on a huge live data collected from GPRS/UMTS networks led to identify the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that play the most important role in the handover process. These KPIs are: Received Signal Code Power (RSCP), received energy per chip (Ec/No) and Available Bandwidth (ABW) of the destination network. To extract a handover model from col…

A Magnetic Resonance Imaging–Based Prediction Model for Prostate Biopsy Risk Stratification
2018
IMPORTANCE: Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in conjunction with MRI–transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) fusion-guided biopsies have improved the detection of prostate cancer. It is unclear whether MRI itself adds additional value to multivariable prediction models based on clinical parameters. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether an MRI-based prediction model can reduce unnecessary biopsies in patients with suspected prostate cancer. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Patients underwent MRI, MRI-TRUS fusion-guided biopsy, and 12-core systematic biopsy in 1 session. The development cohort used to derive the prediction model consisted of 400 patients from 1 institution enrolled between …
Integrated modelling of the influence of urbanization and climate change on river water quality
2010
Climate change is one of the most important drivers modifying the hydrologic and environmental characteristics of natural catchments. When dealing with the quality of natural waters, these factors should be weighed up against anthropogenic factors that may increase or decrease the effect of climatic modifications. However, a detailed and more generalised analysis of such environmental impacts at a relatively small scale is currently lack. This paper aims to fill this gap. The use of a holistic approach is also required by the EU Water Framework Directive, which prescribes integrated analysis for river basin management in order to meet environmental and ecological objectives. In order to qua…
Assessment of data availability influence on integrated urban drainage modelling uncertainty
2009
In urban water quality management, several models are connected and integrated for analysing the fate of pollutants from the sources in the urban catchment to the final recipient; classical problems connected with the selection and calibration of parameters are amplified by the complexity of the modelling approach increasing their uncertainty. The present paper aims at studying the influence of reductions in available data on the modelling response uncertainty with respect to the different integrated modelling outputs (both considering quantity and quality variables). At this scope, a parsimonious integrated home-made model has been used allowing for analysing the combinative effect of data…
Parlare per ascoltarsi. Note su alcuni aspetti dell'interlocuzione.
2015
This paper considers the nature of interlocution from the point of view of three different research programs: the theory of enunciative operations of Antoine Culioli (or toe), the psychoanalysis of Jacques Lacan (or pla) and the enactive grammar of Didier Bottineau (or ge). It is composed of three parts: in the first part, we introduce some definitions of interlocution in order to distinguish between terms and empirical supports of interlocution. The second part is devoted to the analysis of some sensorial operations that are at work in the context of verbal inter- action – with particular reference to the cases of acoustic feedback. Finally, in the last part we discuss in which sense and u…
The silent work of speech. On an Enactive Grammar’s Insight
2019
Many research programs have been worked out in recent years in order to account for an apparently trivial aspect of the human language activity. We refer to the fact that every speaker hears the sound of his own words. Our paper aims to embed this empirical insight in the theoretical framework of the so-called enactive grammar. This choice is justified by the fact that the enactive grammar introduced a formal distinction which allows to provide a clear formulation of the jakobsonian assert. In order to highlight this point, the paper will be subdivided into seven sections. The first section will be devoted to the experience of the hearing oneself speak. The second one will examine this expe…
Antécédents et conséquences de l'intrusion publicitaire perçue sur internet : le cas des formes publicitaires
2013
This research explores the relations between the format of advertising and perceived intrusion and tries to understand the consequences on attitudinal responses and on behaviour intentions of the Internet user, in particular in terms of resistance. The advertising intrusion is envisaged as a negative perception which could be activated by formats. The first part of this work is to understand the impact of perceived advertising intrusion, the second part is to operationalize the concept and test the research model. The study of the consequences of the use of ad formats allows reporting their influence on the advertising intrusion but also on the attitude towards the format and towards the ad.…
