Smoothed Spherical Truncation based on Fuzzy Membership Functions: Application to the Molecular Encoding.

A novel spherical truncation method, based on fuzzy membership functions, is introduced to truncate interatomic (or interaminoacid) relations according to smoothing values computed from fuzzy membership degrees. In this method, the molecules are circumscribed into a sphere, so that the geometric centers of the molecules are the centers of the spheres. The fuzzy membership degree of each atom (or aminoacid) is computed from its distance with respect to the geometric center of the molecule, by using a fuzzy membership function. Effect of molecular Stokes shift on polariton dynamics

When the enhanced electromagnetic field of a confined light mode interacts with photoactive molecules, the system can be driven into the regime of strong coupling, where new hybrid light-matter states, polaritons, are formed. Polaritons, manifested by the Rabi split in the dispersion, have shown potential for controlling the chemistry of the coupled molecules. Here, we show by angle-resolved steady-state experiments accompanied by multi-scale molecular dynamics simulations that the molecular Stokes shift plays a significant role in the relaxation of polaritons formed by organic molecules embedded in a polymer matrix within metallic Fabry-Pérot cavities. High Gradient Performance of an S-Band Backward Traveling Wave Accelerating Structure for Medical Hadron Therapy Accelerators

The high-gradient performance of an accelerating structure prototype for a medical proton linac is presented. The structure was designed and built using technology developed by the CLIC collaboration and the target application is the TULIP (Turning Linac for Proton therapy) proposal developed by the TERA foundation. The special feature of this design is to produce gradient of more than 50 MV /m in low-β accelerating structures (v/c=0.38). The structure was tested in an S-band test stand at CERN. During the tests, the structure reached over above 60 MV/m at 1.2 μs pulse length and breakdown rate of about 5x10⁻⁶ bpp. The results presented include ultimate performance, long term behaviour and …

A New LA ‐ ICP ‐ MS Method for Ti in Quartz: Implications and Application to High Pressure Rutile‐Quartz Veins from the Czech Erzgebirge

Experimental determination of the pressure and temperature controls on Ti solubility in quartz provides a calibration of the Ti-in-quartz (TitaniQ) geothermometer applicable to geological conditions up to ~ 20 kbar. We present a new method for determining 48Ti mass fractions in quartz by LA-ICP-MS at the 1 μg g−1 level, relevant to quartz in HP-LT terranes. We suggest that natural quartz such as the low-CL rims of the Bishop Tuff quartz (determined by EPMA; 41 ± 2 μg g−1 Ti, 2s) is more suitable than NIST reference glasses as a reference material for low Ti mass fractions because matrix effects are limited, Ca isobaric interferences are avoided, and polyatomic interferences at mass 48 are i…

High-resolution rovibrational spectroscopy of c-C3H2+: The ν7 C–H antisymmetric stretching band

Abstract The ν 7 antisymmetric C–H stretching fundamental of c- C 3 H 2 + has been characterized in a cryogenic 22-pole ion trap by a novel type of action spectroscopy, in which the rovibrational excitation of c- C 3 H 2 + is detected as a slowing down of the low-temperature reaction c- C 3 H 2 +  + H2 → C 3 H 3 + + H. Ninety-one rovibrational transitions with partly resolved fine structure doublets were measured in high resolution. The human immunodeficiency virus is a lethal pathology considered as a worldwide problem. The search for new strategies for the treatment of this disease continues to be a great challenge in the scientific community. In this study, a series of 107 derivatives of 1-[(2-hydroxyethoxy)methyl]-6-(phenylthio)thymine, previously evaluated experimentally against HIV-I reverse transcriptase, was used to model antiretroviral activity. NMR T1-Relaxation Measurements on Paramagnetic Organolanthanides: An Alternative Tool for Structure Determination in Solution

1H NMR investigations were conducted on four paramagnetic organolanthanides, all bearing the tetraisopropylcyclopentadienyl ligand Cp4i (HC5iPr4) in order to verify whether or not interactions observed in the solid state are maintained in solution. In some cases variable-temperature experiments were necessary to enhance the resolution and determine the best conditions for the study. The 1D NMR spectrum could be interpreted in every case. Complementary 2D COSY experiments allowed the full attribution of the signals. Exploring the Slow Relaxation of the Magnetization in CoIII -Decorated {DyIII 2 } Units

We have prepared and structurally characterized a new member of the butterfly-like {CoIII 2DyIII 2} single-molecule magnets (SMMs) through further CoIIIdecoration, with the formula [CoIII 4DyIII 2(OH)2(teaH)2(tea)2(Piv)6] (teaH3=triethanolamine; Piv=trimethylacetate or pivalate). Direct current (DC) susceptibility and magnetization measurements were performed allowing the extraction of possible crystal-field parameters.
