UCS: Ultimate course search
2016
International audience; In this system prototype demonstration we present, Ultimate Course Search (UCS), a learning tool developed to provide students ways to efficiently search electronic educational materials. UCS integrates slides, lecture videos and textbooks into a single platform. The keywords extracted from the textbooks and the slides are the basis of the indexing scheme. For the videos, UCS relies on slide transitions and metadata to establish the correspondence between slides and video segments. The video segmentation is based on the slides being presented using the meta-data provided by the video recording software and image processing techniques.
5G Functional Architecture and Signaling Enhancements to Support Path Management for eV2X
2019
Enhanced vehicle-to-everything (eV2X) communication is one of the most challenging use cases that the fifth generation (5G) of cellular mobile communications must address. In particular, eV2X includes some 5G vehicular applications targeting fully autonomous driving which require ultra-high reliability. The usual approach to providing vehicular communication based on single-connectivity transmission, for instance, through the direct link between vehicles (PC5 interface), often fails at guaranteeing the required reliability. To solve such a problem, in this paper, we consider a scheme where the radio path followed by eV2X messages can be proactively and dynamically configured to either trans…
Indexing Multimedia Learning Materials in Ultimate Course Search
2016
International audience; Multimedia is the main support for online learning materials and the size of multimedia learning materials is growing with the popularity of online programs offered by Universities. Ultimate Course Search (UCS) is a tool that aims to provide efficient search of course materials. UCS integrates slides, lecture videos and textbook content into a single platform with search capabilities. The keywords extracted from the textbook index and the power-point slides are the basis of the indexing scheme. The slides are indexed on the keywords and the videos are indexed on the slides. The correspondence between the slides and video segments is established using the meta-data pr…
Modelling Dependencies Between Classifiers in Mobile Masquerader Detection
2004
The unauthorised use of mobile terminals may result in an abuse of sensitive information kept locally on the terminals or accessible over the network. Therefore, there is a need for security means capable of detecting the cases when the legitimate user of the terminal is substituted. The problem of user substitution detection is considered in the paper as a problem of classifying the behaviour of the person interacting with the terminal as originating from the user or someone else. Different aspects of behaviour are analysed by designated one-class classifiers whose classifications are subsequently combined. A modification of majority voting that takes into account some of the dependencies …
Logic gates scheme based on Coulomb blockade in metallic nanoclusters with organic ligands
2010
We propose a logic gates scheme based on the electron transfer through metallic nanoclusters linked to organic ligands and discuss theoretically the characteristics needed for practical implementation. As a proof-of-the-concept, we demonstrate the OR, AND and NOT gates and study the performance in terms of temperature, applied voltage, and noise.
Entanglement robustness via spatial deformation of identical particle wave functions
2021
We address the problem of entanglement protection against surrounding noise by a procedure suitably exploiting spatial indistinguishability of identical subsystems. To this purpose, we take two initially separated and entangled identical qubits interacting with two independent noisy environments. Three typical models of environments are considered: amplitude damping channel, phase damping channel and depolarizing channel. After the interaction, we deform the wave functions of the two qubits to make them spatially overlap before performing spatially localized operations and classical communication (sLOCC) and eventually computing the entanglement of the resulting state. This way, we show tha…
Sensitivity of SHG-FROG for the characterization of ultrahigh-repetition-rate telecommunication laser sources
2004
International audience; We analyze experimentally the sensitivity of second-harmonic generation frequency-resolved optical gating (SHG-FROG) for the complete intensity and phase characterization of both a sinusoidal beat signal and a train of 1.3 ps pulses at a repetition rate of 160 GHz at 1550 nm. Using a commercially-available optical spectrum analyzer in the SHG-FROG set-up, incident pulses with energies of only 125 and 190 fJ, which correspond to the beat signal and the 1.3 ps pulse train, respectively, have been accurately characterized.
Effect of Impregnation and Activation Conditions of Al2O3/CuO Supported Monolith Catalysts in the Reduction of NO
1979
Reduction of NO in the presence of CO and Ar was examined on two series of monolithic sheets carrying an active CuO/Al 2 O 3 layer. In the impregnation procedure the ratio of Al 2 O 3 to CuO was varied in a wide range. The texture of the layer and the dispersion of CuO therein was controlled by mercury porosimetry, scanning electron microscopy and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). It could be established that the surface concentration of CuO determined by SIMS measurements is the most decisive quantity of the catalyst correlating linearly with the conversion of NO.
Automatic Segmentation Using a Hybrid Dense Network Integrated With an 3D-Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling Module for Computed Tomography (CT) Imaging
2020
Computed tomography (CT) with a contrast-enhanced imaging technique is extensively proposed for the assessment and segmentation of multiple organs, especially organs at risk. It is an important factor involved in the decision making in clinical applications. Automatic segmentation and extraction of abdominal organs, such as thoracic organs at risk, from CT images are challenging tasks due to the low contrast of pixel values surrounding other organs. Various deep learning models based on 2D and 3D convolutional neural networks have been proposed for the segmentation of medical images because of their automatic feature extraction capability based on large labeled datasets. In this paper, we p…
Self-assessment and sense of security in adolescents form two- and one-parent families
2020
The article includes a review of the literature and a description of the empirical study aimed at comparing the average level of sense of security and of self-assessment in groups of adolescents form two- and one-parent (as a result of divorce) families. A group of 120 participants (62 W, 58 M) aged 15-17 (M = 15.87; SD = 0.88) took part in the study. Based on the data obtained in the Sense of Security Questionnaire (SSQ) and the Multidimensional Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) it was proved, that adolescents raised in one-parent families are characterized by a statistically significantly lower level of sense of security and of self-assessment than adolescents raised in two-parent famil…
