Hardware Computation of Moment Functions in a Silicon Retina Using Binary Patterns

2006

International audience; We present in this paper a method for implementing moment functions in a CMOS retina for shape recognition applications. The method is based on the use of binary patterns and it allows the computation of different moment functions such geometric and Zernike moments of any orders by an adequate choice of the binary patterns. The advantages of the method over other methods described in the literature is that it is particularly suitable for the design of a programmable retina circuit where moment functions of different orders are obtained by simply loading the correct binary patterns into the memory devices implemented on the circuit. The moment values computed by the m…

Spectroscopic response and charge transport properties of CdZnTe detectors grown by the vertical Bridgman technique

2015

In this work, we present the results of spectroscopic investigations on CdZnTe (CZT) detectors grown by the boron oxide encapsulated vertical Bridgman technique (1MEM-CNR, Parma, Italy). The detectors, with different thicknesses (1 and 2.5 mm), are characterized by the same electrode layout (gold electroless contacts): the anode is a central electrode (2 x 2 mm(2)) surrounded by a guard-ring electrode, while the cathode is a planar electrode covering the detector surface (4.1 x 4.1 mm(2)). The results of electrical investigations point out the low leakage currents of these detectors even at high bias voltages: 38 nA/cm(2) (T = 25 degrees C) at 10000 V/cm. The time stability and the spectros…

Mechanical properties of aluminum, zirconium, hafnium and tantalum oxides and their nanolaminates grown by atomic layer deposition

2015

ABSTRACT The mechanical properties of two different metal oxide nanolaminates comprised of Ta 2 O 5 and Al 2 O 3 , HfO 2 or ZrO 2 , grown on soda–lime glass substrate by atomic layer deposition, were investigated. Ta 2 O 5 and Al 2 O 3 layers were amorphous, whereas ZrO 2 and HfO 2 possessed crystalline structure. Thickness of single oxide layers was varied between 2.5 and 15 nm. The total thickness of the laminate structures was in the range of 160–170 nm. The hardness values of single layer oxides on glass ranged from 6.7 GPa (Ta 2 O 5 ) to 9.5 GPa (Al 2 O 3 ). Corresponding elastic moduli were 96 GPa and 101 GPa. The hardnesses of laminates were in the range of 6.8–7.8 GPa and elastic mo…

Chemical Bath Deposition as a Simple Way to Grow Isolated and Coalesced ZnO Nanorods for Light-Emitting Diodes Fabrication

2018

A way to grow and characterize isolated and coalesced ZnO nanorods on $p$ -GaN/sapphire structure is presented. Chemical bath deposition can be used to grow ZnO nanorods of device-quality, simply controlling the duration time of the growth process and the concentration of the nutrient solution in the bath. Increasing the duration of the process, as well as the concentration of the solution, leads to compact and sound layers instead of separated nanorods. However, too high concentrations stop the growth process. Light-emitting diodes fabricated on these ZnO-p-GaN heterostructure have a peak of electroluminescence at 400 nm and exhibit interesting electrical and optical properties. Optical po…

Overlapping community detection versus ground-truth in AMAZON co-purchasing network

2015

International audience; Objective evaluation of community detection algorithms is a strategic issue. Indeed, we need to verify that the communities identified are actually the good ones. Moreover, it is necessary to compare results between two distinct algorithms to determine which is most effective. Classically, validations rely on clustering comparison measures or on quality metrics. Although, various traditional performance measures are used extensively. It appears very clearly that they cannot distinguish community structures with different topological properties. It is therefore necessary to propose an alternative methodology more sensitive to the community structure variations in orde…

Towards A Twitter Observatory: A Multi-Paradigm Framework For Collecting, Storing And Analysing Tweets

2016

International audience; In this article we show how a multi-paradigm framework can fulfil the requirements of tweets analysis and reduce the waiting time for researchers that use computational resources and storage systems to support large-scale data analysis. The originality of our approach is to combine concerns about data harvesting, data storage, data analysis and data visualisation into a framework that supports inductive reasoning in multidisciplinary scientific research. Our main contribution is a polyglot storage system with a generic data model to support logical data independence and a set of tools that can provide a suitable solution for mixing different types of algorithms in or…

Analysis of Low-Altitude Aerial Sequences for Road Traffic Diagnosis using Graph Partitioning and Markov Hierarchical Models

2016

International audience; This article focuses on an original approach aiming the processing of low-altitude aerial sequences taken from an helicopter (or drone) and presenting a road traffic. Proposed system attempts to extract vehicles from acquired sequences. Our approach begins with detecting the primitives of sequence images. At the time of this step of segmentation, the system computes dominant motion for each pair of images. This motion is computed using wavelets analysis on optical flow equation and robust techniques. Interesting areas (areas not affected by the dominant motion) are detected thanks to a Markov hierarchical model. Primitives stemming from segmentation and interesting a…

WSN localization scheme based on Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) for ZigBee Networks

2015

International audience; Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have diverse application domains such as smart home, smart care, industrial, etc. We present a WSN system based on the ZigBee technology (IEEE 802.15.4) in Smart Home. In our paper we interest to ZigBee protocol is often used in medical Rehabilitation, which is a relatively new concept involving wireless transmission of data from the sensors attached to a patient to a distant monitoring station. There is no standardized topology managing the current networks, therefore, we will compare and evaluate the performance the mobility of nodes for star topologies in different scenarios to determine which is the most suitable in a typical hospi…
