Correlates of the non-use of contraception among female university students in Italy
2021
The present paper scrutinizes the correlates of the non-use of contraception among young women in Italy. To this end we consulted two releases of Selfy (Sexual and Emotional LiFe of Youths) survey, which offer information for a nationally sample of university students. The results reveal that the likelihood of non-using contraception is higher among women living in the South and among those with previous experience of unsafe sexual behaviours. The risk of unprotected sex is also higher within a group of students who are relatively older than the others and live in a stable cohabiting union.
Unprotected sex among female Italian uni- versity students: A «Calculated Risk»
2022
Contraception is considered a rational strategy to prevent unwanted births. However, beyond the dichotomy of «planned» and «unplanned» pregnancy, behaviours are sometimes ambivalent or contradictory. The present paper inves tigates the reasons beyond the non-use of contraception in Italy by examining a large-scale survey of university students conducted in 2000 and 2017. The findings reveal a small but clearly defined group of young female students, cohabiting with their partner and residing in the South of the country, who have a high frequency of sexual intercourses and do not deliberately use any contra ceptive method. These findings offer population-based evidence about the ex istence o…
The Perpetrator's mise-en-scene: Language, Body, and Memory in the Cambodian Genocide
2018
Rithy Panh's film S-21. The Khmer Rouge Killing Machine (2003) was the result of a three-year shooting period in the Khmer Rouge centre of torture where perpetrators and victims exchanged experiences and re-enacted scenes from the past under the gaze of the filmmaker's camera. Yet, a crucial testimony was missing in that puzzle: the voice of the prison's director, Kaing Guek Eav, comrade Duch. When the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) were finally established in Phnom Penh to judge the master criminals of Democratic Kampuchea, the first to be indicted was this desk criminal. The film Duch, Master of the Forges of Hell (R. Panh, 2011) deploys a new confrontation – an a…
Improvement of plum storage with modified atmosphere packaging
2010
Post-harvest supply chain is a critical point for agro-food marketing. The management of freshness in the storage is fundamental to maintain high profits in the agro-food sector to improve the distribution and to respond to retailers and consumers' requirements. Plums are considered to have a climacteric-ripening pattern, in which ethylene is the hormone responsible for ripening. Modified atmosphere (MA) storage is a method helpful to maintain the natural quality of fruits. MA added to low temperatures influence fruit metabolism and reduce ethylene production, weight losses, hardness of pulp, preserving vitamins and organic acids. The objective of this study was to increase the condition of…
The role of teachers’ controlling behaviour in physical education on adolescents’ health-related quality of life: test of a conditional process model*
2019
AbstractStudents’ health-related quality of life (HRQoL) may depend on the extent to which the school environment fostered by their teacher is perceived as autonomy-supportive. We tested a conditio...
How Physical Education Teachers’ Interpersonal Behaviour is Related to Students’ Health-Related Quality of Life
2019
Grounded in self-determination theory (SDT), this cross-sectional study tested relations of students’ perceptions of autonomy-supportive and controlling behaviour from teachers in physical education with students’ health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and the potential role of students’ perceived need satisfaction and need frustration as a mediator of these relationships. School students (N = 1031) completed self-report measures of perceived autonomy support, perceived teachers’ controlling behaviour, students’ need satisfaction and need frustration, and HRQoL. Results indicated that students’ perceptions of autonomy support from teachers was positively associated with HRQoL through need …
A self-consistent 2-D model for the dip angle ofmantle downflow beneath an overriding continent
1999
Abstract We demonstrate how the inclination of descending mantle flow is affected by thepresence of a continent overriding the downwelling zone. The mantle is modelled by a fluidhaving a temperature- and pressure-dependent viscosity which describes a low viscosityasthenosphere and a higher viscosity lower mantle. The fluid occupies a square x:y=10:1 boxheated from below. In the absence of overlying continents thermal convection sets in with colddownwellings being nearly vertical. A continent is placed on the convecting mantle and starts todrift. The continent is assumed to be a thick rigid plate. We consider models of two types. Model1 involves a free-floating continent. The continent is pu…
KEY FACTORS FOR SUCCESS IN AGRIFOOD FIRMS: THE CASE OF SPANISH FRUIT & VEGETABLES COOPERATIVES
2015
COLLABORATION BETWEEN CHILDREN, FAMILY AND TEACHERS, IN PROMOTING CHILD’S LEARNING SKILLS
2016
Partnership between teacher and parents forms understanding about mutual communication and the benefits for learning process out of that. Teacher’s observations points to a different understanding on the collaboration with children as a successive process in setting and achieving learning goals. The aim of the article is to reveal how to turn the initiative to involve in preschool learning process expressed by family, into planned engagement in learning process. Daily activities planned by teacher turns parents into educators and involves whole family into initiative fostering project, which strengthens overall partnership between teacher, child and family.
