Sensitivity of three commercial tests for SARS-CoV-2 serology in children: an Italian multicentre prospective study
2022
Abstract Background US Food and Drug Administration has issued Emergency Use Authorizations for hundreds of serological assays to support Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) diagnosis. The aim of this study is to evaluate, for the first time in children, the performance of three widely utilized SARS-CoV-2 serology commercial assays, Diesse Diagnostics (IgG, IgA, IgM) and Roche Diagnostics, both Roche Nucleocapsid (N) IgG and Roche Spike (S) IgG assays. Methods Sensitivity and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated for each of the three different serological tests and mixed and direct comparison were performed. Univariate and multivariate Poisson regression mo…
SARS-CoV-2 infection in COVID-19 patients in Latvia
2022

Relationship of salivary CD14 concentration with dental caries in young children
2017
Background Dental caries is a chronic disease among children and there is need for studies assessing the caries risk factors using saliva. This study aimed to evaluate the association of salivary soluble CD14 and dental caries in young children. Material and Methods A cross-sectional study was done among 300, 3-6 year old school children of Udupi district. A total of 40 children who were caries free, with no past systemic illness or craniofacial anomalies and 40 children with dental caries with no history of dental treatment for caries, with no past systemic illness or craniofacial anomalies were included in control and test groups respectively. Salivary CD14 was evaluated using ELISA test.…

Die weiblichen Figuren in Elisabeth Werners Romanen: selbstständige Frauen in nationalen Gewändern
2016
The female characters in Elisabeth Werner's novels: independent women in national costumes This essay examines the following novels of Elisabeth Werner: Ein Held der Feder (1872), Gesprengte Fesseln (1875), Heimatklang and Vineta (1877) and Wege des Schicksals (1909). Elisabeth Werner, pseudonym of Elizabeth Bürstenbinder, was one of the most popular writers of the family magazine ‘Die Gartenlaube’. The interest of research at Werner seems still to be relatively low. However, the extensive literary creation of the writer certainly deserves attention; it appears to be different from diverse points from the usual love and women's novels of the XIX century. This study analyses the female figur…
International Bordetella pertussis assay standardization and harmonization meeting report. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, Georg…
2009
An international meeting on Bordetella pertussis assay standardization and harmonization was held at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, GA, 19-20 July 2007. The goal of the meeting was to harmonize the immunoassays used for pertussis diagnostics and vaccine evaluation, as agreed upon by academic and government researchers, regulatory authorities, vaccine manufacturers, and the World Health Organization (WHO). The primary objectives were (1) to provide epidemiologic, laboratory, and statistical background for support of global harmonization; (2) to overview the current status of global epidemiology, pathogenesis and immunology of pertussis; (3) to develop a consen…
Lipid and apoprotein composition of HDL in partial or complete CETP deficiency
2012
Hyperalphalipoproteinemia, as observed in patients who are either homozygous or heterozygous for cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) deficiency, has been shown to be associated with striking changes in apolipoprotein size distribution, namely, of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and HDL-like particles. We compared the effect of varying degrees of CETP activity on the HDL apolipoprotein profile in Caucasian CETP-deficient subjects and following pharmacological decrease in CETP activity, using Size Exclusion Chromatography followed by Reverse Phase Protein Array (SEC RPA). The main HDL-associated apolipoproteins (Apo), i.e. ApoA-I, ApoA-II, ApoC-I, and ApoC-III, co-eluted with the HDL pea…
A measurement-based channel model for vehicular communications in tunnels
2014
Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC), 2014 IEEE, Istanbul, TURQUIE, 06-/04/2014 - 09/04/2014; In this paper, we present a new version of the iterative nonlinear least square approximation (INLSA) algorithm for the design of measurement-based channel simulators. The proposed method aims to match the time-variant impulse response (TVIR) of the simulation model to that of the measured channel. The propagation delays are discerned directly from the measurements, whereas the gains, the Doppler frequencies, and the phases are computed iteratively by minimizing a matching error norm. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method in terms of the approximation of the transfe…
Determination of anti GAD65 autoantibodies with an ELISA before and after standardization with the new international reference serum
2009
The serum of a stiff-man syndrome patient was declared international GAD reference standard at the "1st GAD Antibody Workshop" held at the "12th International Immunology and Diabetes Workshop" in Orlando, Florida, USA 1993. A comparative study was performed with 123 diabetic and non-diabetic patients to evaluate whether standardization of this reference serum had changed the properties of a commercially available ELISA assay. All samples classified positive with the old test were confirmed with the new assay. Four additional samples with high "normal" values became positive with the new test. One of them was a control person having a family history of diabetes and genetic loci DR4/DR11. The…
