ABSTRACT Civil servants in international secretariats are exposed to numerous, cross-cutting and, at times, conflicting pressures and expectations. The secretariat of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is no different. This study reveals a fundamental ‘misfit’ between external demands and internal dynamics in the OECD Secretariat. On one hand, the OECD analysts are employed on the basis of merit. In the aftermath of the British referendum to leave the European Union and the European Commission's ‘White Paper on the Future of Europe’, it is not only time to take stock of the existing literature on differentiated integration, but also to rethink the perimeters of disintegration. We argue that phenomena such as Brexit embrace forms of differentiation which trigger the need for conceptualizing differentiated disintegration altogether. Globalization of Monitoring Practices: The Case of American Influences on the Dismissal Risk of European CEOs

Accepted version of an article from the Journal of Economics and Business This study examines globalization of monitoring practices by focusing on how American (U.S.) influences on European firms impact the dismissal risk for these firms' CEOs. Specifically, we argue that the stronger short term orientation of the American corporate governance system increase the dismissal performance sensitivity faced by European CEOs, indirectly and directly. The former materializes via European firms cross-listing on U.S. exchanges, the latter results from European firms hiring U.S. independent board members. This article analyses the formation and development of Member State preferences and positions before and during the European Union (EU) Presidency term. The empirical analysis focuses on the Federal Republic of Germany's policy concerning EU–Russian relations, especially regarding energy policy. The extent to which liberal intergovernmentalism (LI) furthers our understanding of state behaviour in the context of the EU Presidency is questioned. Abstract Hereditary ectodermal dysplasias are a complex group of inherited disorders characterised by abnormalities in two or more ectodermal derivatives (skin, nails, sweat glands, etc.). There are two main types of these disorders – hidrotic and hypohidrotic/anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasias. Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED) or Christ-Siemens-Touraine syndrome (OMIM: 305100 ) occurs in 1 out of 5000–10,000 births [19] and has an X-linked recessive inheritance pattern (X-linked hypohydrotic ectodermal dysplasia – XLHED) [2] . Eight-membered heterocycles with two heteroatoms in a 1,2-relationship of interest in medicinal chemistry

Abstract This chapter treats 1,2-diheterocines, eight membered heterocyclic systems with two heteroatoms, N, O and S, in an 1,2 relationship, exhibiting biological properties and exhaustively covers the literature from 2007 to the end of November 2019. In this period of time 1,2-diazocine, 1,2-oxazocine, 1,2-dioxocin and 1,5-dithiocin ring systems had derivatives exhibiting pharmacological activities. No articles on biological properties have been reported for 1,2-thiazocines and 1,2-oxathiocins. Besides uncondensed derivatives, 1,2-diheterocines fused with five-, six-, and seven-membered carbocycles or heterocycles have been reviewed, as well as bridged 1,2-diheterocines.
