Emotional Intelligence and Psychobiosocial States: Mediating Effects of Intra-Team Communication and Role Ambiguity

2020

Emotional intelligence is an important variable related to the interaction and functioning of sports teams. The present study examined the relationship between players’ trait emotional intelligence and functional and dysfunctional psychobiosocial states. In particular, we examined the mediating effects of intra-team communication efficacy and role ambiguity in this relationship. The participants were 291 (174 men and 117 women) Italian players involved in various team sports (i.e., futsal, soccer, volleyball, handball, and rugby). They completed a multi-section questionnaire assessing the study variables during the early/middle part of their competitive seasons. Structural equation modeling…

A multi-componential methodology for exploring emotions in learning : using self-reports, behaviour registration, and physiological indicators as com…

2018

Studies on emotions in learning are often based on interviews conducted after the learning. These do not capture the multi-componential nature of emotions, nor how emotions are related to the processes of learning. We see emotions as dimensional, multi-componential responses to personally meaningful events and situations. In this methodologically advanced pilot study we developed a multi-componential methodology, capable of providing complementary information on emotions in professional learning. For this purpose, we used a within-subject design applied to a single individual, with a focus on emotions during professional learning. Within a laboratory setting, the subject was shown personall…

Legitimating the consumption of organic food products by emotions

2016

Besides cognitions, also emotions have an effect to purchasing decisions of the consumers. The impact of emotions to consumption decisions in general has been studied quite extensively but in the field of organic food consumption the previous studies have not taken this view comprehensively into consideration. Because consumers of organic food products seem to legitimate their purchasing decisions by emotions it is important to study what kind of legitimation strategies they use and what kind of factors encourages their consumption. Consumers use the following strategies to legitimate their consumption decisions: authorization, rationalization, moral evaluation, and mythopoesis. Which strat…

The pleasure evoked by sad music is mediated by feelings of being moved

2017

Why do we enjoy listening to music that makes us sad? This question has puzzled music psychologists for decades, but the paradox of “pleasurable sadness” remains to be solved. Recent findings from a study investigating the enjoyment of sad films suggest that the positive relationship between felt sadness and enjoyment might be explained by feelings of being moved (Hanich et al., 2014). The aim of the present study was to investigate whether feelings of being moved also mediated the enjoyment of sad music. In Experiment 1, 308 participants listened to five sad music excerpts and rated their liking and felt emotions. A multilevel mediation analysis revealed that the initial positive relations…

Znaczenie doświadczanych emocji dla rozwiązywania zadań problemowych przez makiawelistów

2017

The study shows that there is a connection between machiavellism and the way of solving problem tasks in the situation when selected emotions are inducted. The results also show that people with a high level of machiavellism are characterized by stop self-control (DeBoer, B., Van Hooft, E., Bakker, A., 2011) and that induction of emotions among these people doesn’t have the same connection with the way of solving problem tasks as among people with low level of machiavellism. Additionally, the results show that people with high level of machiavellism don’t trust other people and are competitive.

Automatic Processing of Changes in Facial Emotions in Dysphoria: A Magnetoencephalography Study

2018

It is not known to what extent the automatic encoding and change detection of peripherally presented facial emotion is altered in dysphoria. The negative bias in automatic face processing in particular has rarely been studied. We used magnetoencephalography (MEG) to record automatic brain responses to happy and sad faces in dysphoric (Beck’s Depression Inventory ≥ 13) and control participants. Stimuli were presented in a passive oddball condition, which allowed potential negative bias in dysphoria at different stages of face processing (M100, M170, and M300) and alterations of change detection (visual mismatch negativity, vMMN) to be investigated. The magnetic counterpart of the vMMN was el…
