158 Timing of Fascia Iliaca Compartment Block (FICB) for Neck of Femur (NOF) fracture in the Accident and Emergency Department (AED) and the operatin…
2021
Background and Aims FICB is recommended for NOF fracture in the AED to improve analgesia1 and as an adjuvant to anaesthesia during surgery2. Surgical repair of the fracture should be performed on the day of, or the day after, admission3. We evaluated the provision of FICB in AED and its potential to cause local anaesthetic (LA) toxicity when followed by a further block at time of surgery. Methods All patients admitted to our institution with NOF fracture during October 2019 were retrospectively screened for FICBs. We recorded the time of: admission, FICB in AED, surgery, FICB in theatre and LA dose. Data was cross-referenced and validated against National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD) tables…
Sensibilidad al contraste tras cirugía de cristalino transparente con lente intraocular multifocal asférica difractiva
2013
PURPOSE: To evaluate distance and near contrast sensitivity (CS) under photopic and mesopic conditions before and after refractive lens exchange (RLE) and implantation of the aspheric AcrySof®ReSTOR® (SN6AD3 model) intraocular lens (IOL). METHODS:Seventy-four eyes of 37 patients after RLE underwent bilateral implantation with the aspheric AcrySof ReSTOR IOL. The patient sample was divided into myopic and hyperopic groups. Monocular uncorrected visual acuity at distance and near (UCVA and UCNVA, respectively) and monocular best corrected visual acuity at distance and near (BCVA and BCNVA, respectively) were measured before and 6 months postoperatively. Monocular CS function was measured at t…
Effect of the Alkaline Cations on the Stability of the Model Polynucleotide Poly(dG-dC)·Poly(dG-dC)
2011
When the model polynucleotide poly(dG-dC)∙poly(dG-dC) [polyGC] is titrated with a strong acid (HCl) in unbuffered aqueous solutions containing the chlorides of the alkali metals in the concentration range 0.010 M-0.600 M, two transitions in the absorbance vs. pH plots are evidenced, characterized by the constants pK(a(₁)) and pK(a(₂)). The limiting values at infinite saline concentrations of these two constants, namely pK(∞)(a(₁)) and pK(∞)(a(₂)) obtained making use of the "one site saturation constant" equation or, in turn, of the double logarithmic plot: pK(a) vs. log([salt]⁻¹), exhibit a clear dependence on the nature of the cations. The effects of the different alkali cations on the pK(…
Effect of fat nature and aroma compound hydrophobicity on flavor release from complex food emulsions.
2004
Complex food emulsions containing either hydrogenated palm kernel oil (vegetable fat) or anhydrous milk fat (animal fat) were flavored by using different aroma compounds. The fats differed by their fatty acid and triacylglycerol compositions and by their melting behavior, while the aroma compounds (ethyl butanoate, ethyl hexanoate, methyl hexanoate, mesifurane, linalool, diacetyl, cis-3-hexen-1-ol, and gamma-octalactone) differed by their hydrophobicity. Application of differential scanning calorimetry to fat samples in bulk and emulsified forms indicated differences in the ratio of solid-to-liquid between temperatures ranging from 10 to 35 degrees C. Solid-phase microextraction coupled wit…
Diversity of human capital attributes and diversity of remunerations
2007
07053 - 16 pages; The purpose is to provide some empirical evidence for promoting new insights into the economics of education. Particular attention is paid to the concept of competence and its influence on employee reward. The paper aims at comparing the impact on fixed earnings and flexible pay of the traditional human capital theory variables (education and experience) on the one hand and of specifically identified and assessed competences, on the other hand. The objective is to test if the HCV (years of schooling, years of labour market experience) and competences substitute or complement each other in the definition of earnings.
I RODITORI DI CAVA MONTICINO (BRISIGHELLA, RA)
2021
Rodents are the most abundant group of small mammals occurring in Brisighella deposits. They are represented by 12 species in total, among which 2 hamsters (Apocricetus cf. barrierei and Ruscinomys cf. lasallei), 2 dormice (Muscardinus sp. and Myomimus sp.), 1 porcupine (Hystrix (Hystrix) depereti), 2 sciurids (Atlantoxerus cf. rhodius and Hylopetes sp.) and 5 species of muridae (Apodemus cf. gudrunae, Centralomys benericettii, Occitanomys sp, Paraethomys meini and Stephanomys debruijni). This association suggests a relatively dry open environment, interrupted by forest environment with more or less dense underground.
Evaluation of IP over Bluetooth
2002
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2002 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad The increasing use of Wireless technologies suggest that this kind of technology has a bright future. Today the most popular Wireless Local Area Networks are WLAN 802.11 and Bluetooth. They both have their strengths in different environments. Bluetooth was not initially an Internet technology, but over the years the focus on implementing Bluetooth nodes with Internet capability has increased. When we want to run IP over Bluetooth we need some kind of gateway to the Internet from Bluetooth, a network access point. This will be an important device in the thesis. The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has…
Management of Quality of Service and other functions in mobile Ad Hoc networks
2003
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2003 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad This Masters thesis deals with management of mobile Ad Hoc networks, with main focus on QoS management. The needs for management of such networks and the challenges in managing them are an important part of the theoretical discussion. Different methods like SNMP, ANMP, Guerrilla management and Policy-based management are described and evaluated in order to be used in management of mobile Ad Hoc networks. The task of managing a MANET is important in order to maintain an effective and stable network. Securing the transmission of data and avoiding unauthorized network users are important security tasks.…
Quality of service (QoS) in mobile ad hoc networks
2006
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2006 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad Mobile ad hoc networks inherits several of the issues that ordinary wireless networks have and include several new ones. With internet becoming a multi media enviroment, there are many new requirements that must be satisfied, especially when it comes to real time service. Quality of servce protocol for MANETs has been a topic of interest. In this paper I propose a QoS –aware bandwidth protocol based on available bandwidth calculation. My proposal is based on a few existing proposals today and the theory around these. I then show an implementation available bandwidth calculation and routing functions.…
QoS for real-time IP traffic
2001
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2001 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad This thesis focuses on three service models, known as Best Effort, IntServ and DiffServ, and their ability of providing QoS in IP networks. The objective is to evaluate the performance of real-time traffic based on theory and testing. In addition, mechanisms that may improve the QoS performance further, like MPLS and Bandwidth Brokers, are evaluated to find a comprehensive solution for different types of IP networks. Tests are set up to focus on typical behavior of the service models, and disclose differences in their efficiency together with problems concerning fairness in the bandwidth sharing. Res…
