Comparison of the polymorphs and solvates of two analogous fungicides—a case study of the applicability of a supramolecular synthon approach in cryst…

2011

The polymorphism and solvate formation of thiophanate-ethyl (TE), a fungicidal active, were investigated by solvent crystallization and compared to a close analogue, thiophanate-methyl (TM). Four polymorphs and seven solvates of TE were found and structurally compared with the previously found two polymorphs and fourteen solvates of TM by analyzing the hydrogen bonding patterns and using fingerprint plots, packing coefficients and lattice energies. TE and TM have the same functional groups that can build identical supramolecular synthons. Despite the strong similarities, the polymorphs and solvates of the two actives show significant differences in hydrogen bonding and packing. The results …

Ciemu plānošana viedai attīstībai

2020

Bounded Palais–Smale sequences for non-differentiable functions

2011

The existence of bounded Palais-Smale sequences (briefly BPS) for functionals depending on a parameter belonging to a real interval and which are the sum of a locally Lipschitz continuous term and of a convex, proper, lower semicontinuous function, is obtained when the parameter runs in a full measure subset of the given interval. Specifically, for this class of non-smooth functions, we obtain BPS related to mountain pass and to global infima levels. This is done by developing a unifying approach, which applies to both cases and relies on a suitable deformation lemma. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Closed foldable capsular rings

2004

A new foldable capsular tension and bending ring system with a sharp-edged design is described. The closed foldable capsular rings (CFCR) consist of 8 hydrophobic and 8 hydrophilic ring segments. The CFCRs have a 9.2 mm minimum overall diameter. The CFCRs were inserted using various cartridge systems or a two-folded technique with a forceps. The CFCRs were implanted after phacoemulsification through a small (1.6 to 3.2 mm) incision in 104 human adult eyes without intraoperative complications. No postoperative complications such as capsule folds or inward bending were observed over a 6-month follow-up. Posterior capsule opacification was minimal or absent in all eyes.

Young athletes’ significant experiences in sport : critical sociological reflections on athlete development

2017

AbstractThe aim of this article is to provide a sociological perspective on athlete development by using the theoretical framework of socialization and life course. Significant experiences are used as an interpretational tool to study young athletes’ perceptions of their socialization process. The research data, which were collected at a sports upper secondary school, consist of life historical interviews with 26 young athletes aged 14–17 years. Through content analysis, their significant experiences in sports were divided into four categories and then analyzed further in relation to the Habermasian dualistic reality of the lifeworld and the system. The results were the following. First, no…

Hypoxia and hypothermia as rival agents of selection driving the evolution of viviparity in lizards

2017

[Aim]: The evolution of key innovations promotes adaptive radiations by opening access to new ecological opportunity. The acquisition of viviparity (live-bearing reproduction) has emerged as one such innovation explaining reptile proliferations into extreme climates. By evolving viviparity, females provide embryos with internally stable environments to complete development. The classical hypothesis suggests that natural selection for viviparity arises from low temperatures in cold climates, which promote prolonged egg retention in the mother's body. An alternative hypothesis proposes that declines in atmospheric oxygen at high elevations create natural selection for embryo retention to prov…

Effects of Candelilla and Carnauba Wax Incorporation on the Functional Properties of Edible Sodium Caseinate Films

2020

International audience; The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of candelilla (CAN) or carnauba wax (CAR) incorporation on functional properties of edible sodium caseinate (CAS) films. Glycerol and Tween-80 were used as the plasticizer and the emulsifier, respectively. The results showed that the incorporation of waxes increased film opacity, total color differences (∆E), and mechanical resistance and reduced film lightness, water vapor permeability (WVP), and elongation at break. Scanning electron microscopy showed heterogeneous structure of emulsion films with regular distribution of lipid particles. A different internal arrangement was observed as a function of the film composi…

Millaiseksi koulu koetaan? : koulukokemuksia Liikkuva koulu -hankkeen kouluista

2012

Ingerttilä, Mari & Jokikokko, Katja. 2012. Millaiseksi koulu koetaan? Koulukokemuksia Liikkuva koulu -hankkeen kouluista. Liikuntapedagogiikan pro gradu -tutkielma. Liikuntatieteiden laitos. Jyväskylän yliopisto. 96 s.

Narratives of professional development in a teachers’ creative writing group

2021

This paper explores teachers’ experiences of professional development in a creative writing group. The data was collected in a teachers’ creative writing group and consist of semi-structured interviews and creative writing assignments. Reflexive thematic analysis and narrative analysis were applied to compose a nonfiction piece that describes the teachers’ experiences of a ‘year of creative writing’. Within the nonfiction piece, four themes were presented as findings of the study: social aspects, personal and emotional aspects, writer identity aspects, and pedagogical aspects. The results suggest that utilising creative writing methods in qualitative research can raise otherwise hidden voic…
