Effect of melting on ionization potential of sodium clusters

2003

The effect of melting transition on the ionization potential has been studied for sodium clusters with 40, 55, 142, and 147 atoms, using ab initio and classical molecular dynamics. Classical and ab initio simulations were performed to determine the ionization potential of Na142 and Na147 for solid, partly melted, and liquid structures. The results reveal no correlation between the vertical ionization potential and the degree of surface disorder, melting, or the total energy of the cluster obtained with the ab initio method. However, in the case of 40 and 55 atom clusters, the ionization potential seems to decrease when the cluster melts.

High voltage vacuum-processed perovskite solar cells with organic semiconducting interlayers

2020

In perovskite solar cells, the choice of appropriate transport layers and electrodes is of great importance to guarantee efficient charge transport and collection, minimizing recombination losses. The possibility to sequentially process multiple layers by vacuum methods offers a tool to explore the effects of different materials and their combinations on the performance of optoelectronic devices. In this work, the effect of introducing interlayers and altering the electrode work function has been evaluated in fully vacuum-deposited perovskite solar cells. We compared the performance of solar cells employing common electron buffer layers such as bathocuproine (BCP), with other injection mate…

First successful ionization of Lr (Z = 103) by a surface-ionization technique.

2013

We have developed a surface ionization ion-source as part of the JAEA-ISOL (Isotope Separator On-Line) setup, which is coupled to a He/CdI2 gas-jet transport system to determine the first ionization potential of the heaviest actinide lawrencium (Lr, Z = 103). The new ion-source is an improved version of the previous source that provided good ionization efficiencies for lanthanides. An additional filament was newly installed to give better control over its operation. We report, here, on the development of the new gas-jet coupled surface ion-source and on the first successful ionization and mass separation of 27-s (256)Lr produced in the (249)Cf + (11)B reaction.

Additive properties of fractal sets on the parabola

2023

Let $0 \leq s \leq 1$, and let $\mathbb{P} := \{(t,t^{2}) \in \mathbb{R}^{2} : t \in [-1,1]\}$. If $K \subset \mathbb{P}$ is a closed set with $\dim_{\mathrm{H}} K = s$, it is not hard to see that $\dim_{\mathrm{H}} (K + K) \geq 2s$. The main corollary of the paper states that if $0 0$. This information is deduced from an $L^{6}$ bound for the Fourier transforms of Frostman measures on $\mathbb{P}$. If $0 0$, then there exists $\epsilon = \epsilon(s) > 0$ such that $$ \|\hat{\mu}\|_{L^{6}(B(R))}^{6} \leq R^{2 - (2s + \epsilon)} $$ for all sufficiently large $R \geq 1$. The proof is based on a reduction to a $\delta$-discretised point-circle incidence problem, and eventually to the $(s,2s)$-…

Search for supersymmetric particles in scenarios with a gravitino LSP and stau NLSP

2000

Sleptons, neutralinos and charginos were searched for in the context of scenarios where the lightest supersymmetric particle is the gravitino. It was assumed that the stau is the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle. Data collected with the DELPHI detector at a centre-of-mass energy near 189 GeV were analysed combining the methods developed in previous searches at lower energies. No evidence for the production of these supersymmetric particles was found. Hence, limits were derived at 95% confidence level.

GEANT4 simulation of the neutron background of the C6D6 set-up for capture studies at n_TOF

2014

The neutron sensitivity of the C6D6 detector setup used at n_TOF facility for capture measurements has been studied by means of detailed GEANT4 simulations. A realistic software replica of the entire n_TOF experimental hall, including the neutron beam line, sample, detector supports and the walls of the experimental area has beeni mplemented in the simulations. The simulations have been analyzed in the same manner as experimental data, in particular by applying the Pulse Height Weighting Technique. The simulations have been validated against a measurement of the neutron background performed with anatC sample, showing an excellent agreement above 1 keV. At lower energies, an additional compo…

New accurate measurements of neutron emission probabilities for relevant fission products

2017

We have performed new accurate measurements of the beta-delayed neutron emission probability for ten isotopes of the elements Y, Sb, Te and I. These are fission products that either have a significant contribution to the fraction of delayed neutrons in reactors or are relatively close to the path of the astrophysical r process. The measurements were performed with isotopically pure radioactive beams using a constant and high efficiency neutron counter and a low noise beta detector. Preliminary results are presented for six of the isotopes and compared with previous measurements and theoretical calculations. peerReviewed

Radiative neutron capture on 242Pu in the resonance region at the CERN n_TOF-EAR1 facility

2018

The spent fuel of current nuclear reactors contains fissile plutonium isotopes that can be combined with uranium to make mixed oxide (MOX) fuel. In this way the Pu from spent fuel is used in a new reactor cycle, contributing to the long-term sustainability of nuclear energy. However, an extensive use of MOX fuels, in particular in fast reactors, requires more accurate capture and fission cross sections for some Pu isotopes. In the case of 242Pu there are sizable discrepancies among the existing capture cross-section measurements included in the evaluations (all from the 1970s) resulting in an uncertainty as high as 35% in the fast energy region. Moreover, post-irradiation experiments evalua…

Precision Measurement of the Mass and Lifetime of the Ξ[0 over b] Baryon

2014

Using a proton-proton collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{-1}$ collected by LHCb at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, about 3800 $\Xi_b^0\to\Xi_c^+\pi^-$, $\Xi_c^+\to pK^-\pi^+$ signal decays are reconstructed. From this sample, the first measurement of the $\Xi_b^0$ baryon lifetime is made, relative to that of the $\Lambda_b^0$ baryon. The mass differences $M(\Xi_b^0)-M(\Lambda_b^0)$ and $M(\Xi_c^+)-M(\Lambda_c^+)$ are also measured with precision more than four times better than the current world averages. The resulting values are $\frac{\tau_{\Xi_b^0}}{\tau_{\Lambda_b^0}} = 1.006\pm0.018\pm0.010$, $M(\Xi_b^0) - M(\Lambda_b^0) = 172.44\pm0.39\pm…

Possible neutron and proton halo structure in the isobaric analog states of A=12 nuclei

2020

The differential cross sections of the 11B(3He,d)12C reaction leading to formation of the 0+ ground state and the 15.11-MeV 1 +, 16.57-MeV 2−, and 17.23-MeV 1− excited states of 12C are measured at Elab=25 MeV. The analysis of the data is carried out within the coupled-reaction-channels method for the direct proton transfer to the bound and unbound states. The rms radii of the last proton in all states studied are determined. A comparison of the rms radii of the 12B, 12C, and 12N nuclei in the isobaric analog states (IASs) with isospin T=1 determined by different methods allows us to arrive at a conclusion that these nuclei in the 1− excited states at Ex=2.62, 17.23, and 1.80 MeV, respectiv…
