Investigation into the impact of training on elementary teachers? ability to use them

This study presents the findings from a controlled trial of the new Teacher Guides for English as a subject (n=293) that form part of the new elementary English Standards-Based Curriculum in Papua New Guinea. The aim was to investigate whether training on the Teacher Guides had an impact on teachers’ ability to use and deliver the scripted lessons they contain. The trial was conducted in two provinces. Assessment was by pre- and post-trial questionnaires, reflective journals and focus groups. Tutkimuksen tehtävänä oli selvittää englannin kielen roolia pakolaisten kotoutumisessa Suomeen. Erityisesti huomiota kiinnitettiin englannin kielen merkitykseen kahdella kotoutumisen osa-alueella: koulutuksessa ja työelämässä. Lisäksi selvitettiin pakolaisten omia tavoitteita kotoutumiselle. Tutkimukseen osallistui kymmenen (10) täysi-ikäistä pakolaista kolmesta keskisuuresta kaupungista. The role of Dutch in the development of East Anglian English

Dutch speakers may or may not have contributed a certain amount of lexical material to modern East Anglian dialects. There is a much stronger case to be made, however, for arguing that Dutch speakers did have a rather profound infl uence on the morphology of East Anglian English, dating from the time when almost forty percent of the population of the capital of East Anglia, Norwich, were refugees from the Low Countries. That infl uence was indirect, and mediated through mechanisms of linguistic change associated with language contact.
