The 1946 Production of The Fairy Queen in Covent Garden: 'A Triumph of British Music and Stagecraft'?

2006

This article examines the sets designed by John Piper for eight of Benjamin Britten's operas in the context of England's artistic and political post-war reconstruction. Piper created backdrops that found their logical conclusion in his stained-glass windows. They provide a sense of continuity whilst reflecting fundamental contradictions.

Giuseppe Cocchiara, il fascismo e il razzismo

2021

Yes when as in a "world upside down" having defeated fascism under the weight of a humiliating and bloody defeat it will be precisely the hated English who will enhance his intellectual stature and the new democratic Italy to allow him to have an irresistible academic rise and scientific.Settore M-STO/04 - Storia ContemporaneaSettore M-DEA/01 - Discipline DemoetnoantropologicheIn this essay the relationship between Giuseppe Cocchiara and fascism is reconstructed. Register Variation in Electronic Business Correspondence

2011

Electronic correspondence is a highly dynamic genre within the business world in which Register Variation (RV) is frequently used as a tool to improve communication but it often can lead to misunderstanding. In order to shed some light on this still unexplored area, the present study firstly offers a practical approach to classify and analyse RV within professional communication. After this, it reviews previous studies on email writing to apply their findings to this approach and, in the third part of the study, a corpus of recent business emails in English is analysed to examine how the key parameters of RV are currently used within this genre. The results will show that, not only the cont…

Esercizi di traduzione in London, British Library, Harley 1002

2017

Latvian or English – the Language Situation in Scientific Communication in Latvia

2020

The growing dominance of English as an international language of scientific communication in the world has been widely acknowledged. However, its effect in the relevant discourse community in Latvia is still to be explored. A case study was undertaken to improve upon the current understanding of the choice of scientific publishing language in Latvia and explore historical factors underpinning the current predominance of English as the lingua franca of the scientific community. It has been concluded that with a strong focus on international publishing in indexed databases, the role of English in scientific communication in Latvia has an increasing tendency to grow. Although currently English…
