How does a simulated soccer match affect regional differences in biceps femoris muscle architecture?
2017
Soccer is played by thousands of athletes across the globe and its participation increases the overall risk of injury, in particular, hamstring strain injuries (HSI). Biceps femoris (BF) has been shown to be involved the in 5 out of 6 HSI cases and risk factors including fatigue and short BF fascicle length (FL) have been identified. Furthermore, previous studies suggest that different muscle regions may undergo different strains during dynamic tasks, which could contribute to injury risk. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a soccer match on regional differences in the BF muscle architecture. A secondary aim was to assess the reliability of the extended field of vi…
Vagus Nerve Stimulation in Medically- Resistant Epilepsy: Efficacy and Tolerance
2022
Background: Epilepsy is a common neurological disease that affects 1% of the population. One third of patients with epilepsy will not respond to antiseizure medications. The most effective treatment when a patient has medically resistant epilepsy is epilepsy surgery. Unfortunately, in many cases surgery is not possible. Neuromodulation is a therapy used in those patients and Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) is the most common type. There are many studies focusing on seizure reduction using VNS, it is still unclear which patients will obtain the greatest benefits. Objective: To define the seizure response post-VNS implantation, to determine predictive factors associated with good outcomes after…
Seruma pepsinogēna un gastrīna - 17 noteikšanas diagnostiska vērtība kuņģa vēža gadījumā
2017

Effects of Zoledronic Acid on Cathepsin K circulating levels in patients with bone metastasis.
2007
Cathepsin K serum levels were determinated in patients with bone metastases from breast cancer or prostate cancer in therapy with zoledronic acid or in patients or in patients with located breast or prostate cancer end in patients with non malignant diseases and in healthy blood. donors (control group). Cathepsin K serum levels were significantly more eleved in healthy subjects or in patients with peimary osteoporosis. Furthermore, the administration of Zoledronic acid to patients with metastatic bome disease from breast or prostate cancer, induced a marked increase of Cathepsin K serum levels.

WDR45 Gene and Its Role in Pediatric Epilepsies
2021
AbstractWD repeat domain 45 (WDR45) gene has been increasingly found in patients with developmental delay (DD) and epilepsy. Previously, WDR45 de novo mutations were reported in sporadic adult and pediatric patients presenting iron accumulation, while heterozygous mutations were associated with β-propeller protein-associated neurodegeneration (BPAN), a subtype of neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation disorders, characterized by extrapyramidal movement disorders and abnormal accumulation of iron in the basal ganglia. Overall, people harboring WDR45 mutations have moderate to severe DD and different types of seizures. The phenotype of adult patients is characterized by extrapyramidal…
