Development of core-shell colloids to study self-diffusion in highly concentrated dispersions

To study single particle motion in highly concentrated colloidal dispersions, a host-tracer colloid system was developed, consisting of crosslinked polymer micronetwork spheres placed in a good solvent. The host colloid is made invisible to the experimental probe by matching its refractive index to that of the solvent. For the tracer particles a core-shell structure was chosen to ensure the interaction potential to be identical to that of the host particles. Therefore the shell was made of the same polymer as the host. The core differs in refractive index from the solvent and is therefore visible due to scattered light.

Adsorption and structure formation of semiflexible polymers on spherical surfaces

Abstract Rigid spheres with a short-range attractive potential are taken as a coarse-grained model of vesicles, which contain a solution of semiflexible polymers in their interior. Assuming good solvent conditions with an implicit description of the solvent, effective monomers experience bond-length and bond-angle potentials as well as excluded-volume interaction. Due to the attractive vesicle surface, phase separation occurs between a thin shell of adsorbed monomers at the surface and a rather dilute, and therefore, disordered polymer solution in the sphere interior. Aiming at investigating the suitability of Hofmann-type two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymers {FeII(Lax)2[MII(CN)4]} to be processed as single monolayers and probed as spin crossover (SCO) junctions in spintronic devices, the synthesis and characterization of the MII derivatives (MII = Pd and Pt) with sulfur-rich axial ligands (Lax = 4-methyl- and 4-ethyl-disulfanylpyridine) have been conducted. Surface-Functionalized Latex Particles as Controlling Agents for the Mineralization of Zinc Oxide in Aqueous Medium

Polystyrene latex particles modified at the surface with different hydrophilic functional groups were prepared by miniemulsion polymerization and used as controlling agents in the crystallization of zinc oxide from aqueous medium. The effects of the chemical nature of the surface functionalization and the latex concentration on the crystal growth, morphology, and crystalline structure of the resulting zinc oxide were analyzed. Micro- and submicrosized crystals with a broad variety of morphologies depending on the functionalization were obtained. Vitrification in restricted geometry: dry films of colloidal particles

We prepared dry films of colloidal particles from surfactant co-stabilized polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) latex spheres of moderate polydispersity. The film thickness was varied from monolayer to some 20 μm. The average structure and the influence of polydispersity was analyzed by small-angle X-ray scattering. An analysis of local microscopic structures was performed by force microscopy on the least polydisperse sample. Irrespective of the thickness, we observe the formation of only short-ranged order which is rather pronounced but changes its qualitative character in the vicinity of the substrate. Spin-Transition in [Fe(II)(2,6-Bis-(Benzimidazol-2′-yl)pyridine)2] (CIO4)2: Hysteresis Effect Dependent on the Matrix

Abstract Far-Infrared spectroscopical investigation of the spin-crossover in [Fe(II)(2,6-bis-(benzimidazol-2′-yl)-pyridine)2] (CIO4)2 exhibits a hysteresis in both CsI and polyethylene matrices within temperature cycles between 100K and 520K. The hysteresis broadening is dependent on the matrix and bigger in CsI. This can be explained due to polarity and hydrogen bonding. Two low spin vibrations, LS1 at 437 cm−1 and LS2 at 424cm−1, are observed. On heating from 100K to 520K: during LS1 decreases, the LS2 raises temporarily, until both LS1 and LS2 disappear; for the HS only one raising species was observed. This gives raise to assume two different sub-lattices.

<p>A familly of chemically robust hybrid [Fe(Htrz)2(trz)](BF4)@SiO2nanoparticles (NPs) presenting different sizes (from ca. 90 to 28 nm) and an ultrathin silica shell (< 3 nm) have been prepared. All NPs present a characteristic abrupt spin transition with a subsequent decrease in the width of the thermal hysteresis upon reducing the NP size.<br></p>

ChemInform Abstract: Access to Pyrazolidin-3,5-diones Through Anodic N-N Bond Formation.

Pyrazolidin-3,5-diones are important motifs in heterocyclic chemistry and are of high interest for pharmaceutical applications. In classic organic synthesis, the hydrazinic moiety is installed through condensation using the corresponding hydrazine building blocks. However, most N,N'-diaryl hydrazines are toxic and require upstream preparation owing to their low commercial availability. We present an alternative and sustainable synthetic approach to pyrazolidin-3,5-diones that employs readily accessible dianilides as precursors, which are anodically converted to furnish the N-N bond. The electroconversion is conducted in a simple undivided cell under constant-current conditions.

En este trabajo se investiga la evolución de la instancia enunciadora (voz) en las tres primeras películas del cineasta boliviano Jorge Sanjinés en el seno de la primera formación del grupo Ukamau (1966-1971). Se analizan las causas políticas y las consecuencias formales de la renuncia al poder enunciador por parte de su tradicional detentador, el intelectual; y su entrega a los grupos subalternos representados en las películas y copartícipes de la producción fílmica.
