Propaganda of Islamic state in the Digital Age
2016
Islamic state has successfully united two well-known but distinct subjects: one is information and communication technologies as well as social networks; another is military jihad. Military and ultra-aggressive jihad performed by Islamic state with unseen excellence creates quasi-syncretic union of religious bigotry and the use of contemporary information technologies. The situation, where contemporary jihad transcends spatial borders, forces to acknowledge that understanding and derogation of Islamic state’s propaganda is as important as the armed struggle. The union of military jihad and contemporary technologies has become mark of an age, namely, it is an expression or a manifestation of…
L’esperienza spagnola, dal terrorismo interno alla minaccia globale. Strumenti di difesa di una democrazia banco di prova
2017
The Spanish System represents a minor reality in a context in which Western European Democracies have opted to exclude from their Constitutions the preventive provision of the so‐called state of emergency and the specific case of terrorism. After all, the events that affected Spain are well‐known. Since many years, Spain has been active in the conflict against the Basque Terrorism and the democratic dilemmas, because of the presence in the Parliament of parties linked to the terrorist group Eta. And exactly the well‐known Ley organic sobre los partidos políticos 6/2002, which outlawed the Batasuna Party and other political organizations connected to the Eta group. Therefore, in the Spanish …
Uccisioni mirate, legittima difesa preventiva e diritti umani
2018
Targeted killings by drones on the territory of other States has increasingly become the US Administration’s weapon of choice in the war against terrorism. According to the US, these operations constitute a justified use of self-defensive force «against terrorists who pose a continuing and imminent threat to the American people» (Remarks by the President at the National Defense University, 23 May 2013, www.whitehouse.gov). The aim of the present article is to assess the validity of this justification under both ius ad bellum and international human rights law. To this end, Section 1 introduces the arguments advanced by the US Administration. Section 2 explores the admissibility of anticipat…

The Undesired Other

Over the recent years, the theme of abortion has set in the agenda of many countries. Although the abortion law was already present in France, the US and the UK, in some other countries the law was recently sanctioned just after the 2000s. This chapter deals with the problem of hospitality in the days of terrorism. From different angles, this chapter explores the question of abortion and the ideas of hospitality and multiculturalism, points that modern terrorism has instilled as necessary debates. We hold the thesis that the modern self has serious problems to understand the alterity when it confronts the own desires. The right of legal abortion should be framed as a decline of hospitality,…
