My doctoral dissertation examines women’s memory narratives of paid labour during the Winter War (1939–1940) and the Continuation War (1941–1945, including the Lapland War) and in the years of rebuilding in Finland until early 1950s. As an ethnologist, I am interested in the personal level of everyday life and experiences of work. My main interest lies in the meanings women give to paid labour. The focus is on memory narratives, and I am reaching and I aim to bring to light the meanings given to work: what did paid labour mean for women during the war and the time of rebuilding and how do they tell about it decades afterwards? The ongoing internationalization of audiovisual media increases the need for new ways of overcoming linguistic barriers. In Germany, where the common technique has always been dubbing, subtitles are however becoming more and more popular. The present article will deal with the application possibilities of subtitles in audiovisual translation with reference to humoristic elements. Strain hardening in liquid-particle suspensions

The behavior of a liquid-particle suspension induced to sheared motion was analyzed by numerical simulations. When the velocity (strain) of the suspension began to increase, its viscosity first stayed almost constant, but increased then rapidly to a clearly higher level. This increase in viscosity is shown to be related to formation of clusters of suspended particles. Clusters are shown to increase the viscosity by enhanced momentum transfer though clustered particles. This is the mechanism behind the strain-hardening phenomenon observed in small-strain experiments on liquid-particle suspensions.

Pētījuma “Uztvertā stresa, darba-ģimenes konflikta radītāju saistība ar attālinātā darba biežumu” mērķis bija noskaidrot kādas saistības pastāv starp uztverto stresu, darba-ģimenes konfliktu un attālinātā darba biežumu. Pētījuma izlase tika veidota pēc brīvprātības principa. Pētījumā piedalījās viena respondentu grupa, vecumā no 25-50 gadiem. Pētījumā piedalījās 53 respondenti (N 53) , tai skaitā 10 (19%) vīrieši un 43 (81%) sievietes. Pētījuma piedalījās respondenti, kuri ir attālinātā darba veicēji un ģimenē viens no vecākiem veic attālināto darbu 35 (66%) gadījumos vai abi vecāki ģimenē veic attālināto darbu 18 (34%) gadījumos. Tā kā reklāmas jēdziens visbiežāk ir pētīts mārketinga jomā, šī darba mērķis bija uzzināt, kāda ir humora loma drukātā reklāmā. Darbs fokusējās uz modificēto iespraudumiem izmantošanu smieklīgās reklāmās, jo šis instruments ietver netiešo nozīmi.
