The airborne mass spectrometer AIMS – Part 2: Measurements of trace gases with stratospheric or tropospheric origin in the UTLS
2016
Understanding the role of climate-sensitive trace gas variabilities in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere region (UTLS) and their impact on its radiative budget requires accurate measurements. The composition of the UTLS is governed by transport and chemistry of stratospheric and tropospheric constituents, such as chlorine, nitrogen oxide and sulfur compounds. The Atmospheric chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer AIMS has been developed to accurately measure a set of these constituents on aircraft by means of chemical ionization. Here we present a setup using SF5− reagent ions for the simultaneous measurement of trace gas concentrations of HCl, HNO3 and SO2 in the pptv to ppmv (1…
Implementation of the Community Earth System Model (CESM) version 1.2.1 as a new base model into version 2.50 of the MESSy framework
2016
Abstract. The Community Earth System Model (CESM1), maintained by the United States National Centre for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) is connected with the Modular Earth Submodel System (MESSy). For the MESSy user community, this offers many new possibilities. The option to use the Community Atmosphere Model (CAM) atmospheric dynamical cores, especially the state-of-the-art spectral element (SE) core, as an alternative to the ECHAM5 spectral transform dynamical core will provide scientific and computational advances for atmospheric chemistry and climate modelling with MESSy. The well-established finite volume core from CESM1(CAM) is also made available. This offers the possibility to compare …
Metālisko elementu satura variācijas augsnē un dārzeņos
2022

Pigmented desmoplastic trichilemmoma
2016
Desmoplastic trichilemmoma (DT), the pseudomalignant variant of conventional trichilemmoma described by Hunt et al in 1990, displays a superficial lobular growth pattern of glycogen-rich cells with peripheral nuclear palisading surrounded by a thickened basement membrane. DT differs from its conventional counterpart by showing a central hyalinized area with epithelial cords and strands mimicking invasive carcinoma. We report a case that fully satisfies the criteria for DT and, in addition, shows an extensive melanocytic cell component and prominent melanin deposition. To our knowledge, a pigmented variant of DT has not been reported and should be recognized in order to appropriately face th…
La «Bataille de Caresme et de Charnage». Parodia e ironizzazione letteraria
2012

Use of rumen microorganisms to boost the anaerobic biodegradability of microalgae
2017
[EN] A laboratory bioreactor using rumen microorganisms to treat Scenedesmus spp. biomass was operated for 190 days. At first the bioreactor operated as a Rumen-like Fermenter (RF) with a Sludge Retention Time (SRT) of 7 days. The RF was subsequently transformed into an anaerobic digestion system including two configurations: continuously-stirred tank reactor and anaerobic membrane bioreactor in which different SRT values of up to 100 days were assessed. Methane production peaked at 214 mL CH4 g−1 CODIn with a SRT of 100 days. COD removal and BDP peaked at above 70% and 60%, respectively, at the highest SRT, with no pre-treatment prior to microalgae digestion. The waste sludge product…
From Biology to Linguistics: The Definition of Arthron in Aristotle's Poetics
2018
This volume is not intended as a philological or paleographical specialist contribution: it is a new attempt at reading Aristotle’s work as a whole. It consists of two chapters. The first chapter consists of three sections. First section discusses the main problems posed by the definition of arthron; second section considers the state of the text; third section examines the critical literature on that issue since the end of the nineteenth century. The second chapter is the actual pars construens of the work. It consists of five sections. The first section explores the close relationship that Aristotle holds between biology and language. Aristotle is not the father of the specialized sciences: H…
