Abstract A series of the protected alkyl glycosides 5a / 5b – 12a / 12b was synthesized from the parent isomeric alcohols (insect juvenile hormone bioanalogs; juvenoids), 4-[4′-(2″-hydroxycyclohexyl)methylphenoxy]-3-methyl-but-2-enoic acid ethyl ester ( 1a / 1b – 4a / 4b ; racemic structures) and ( 1a – 4a ; enantiopure structures). Cadmium carbonate was used as a promoter of this Koenigs–Knorr reaction, and the products were obtained in 82–92% yields. Phospholipase D in heart: basal activity and stimulation by phorbol esters and aluminum fluoride

Evidence for a general role of phospholipase D in signal transduction is accumulating. In the present study, the activity of the enzyme was investigated in heart tissue under basal conditions and after addition of phorbol esters or aluminum fluoride (AlF inf4 sup− ; 10 mM NaF plus 10 μM AlCl3). Atria of rats and chickens were incubated with [3H]-myristic acid in order to label preferentially phosphatidylcholine. Under basal conditions, the tissues generated choline and phosphatidic acid (PtdOH), the primary catalytic products of phospholipase D. Phospholipase D in rat myocardium: formation of lipid messengers and synergistic activation by G-protein and protein kinase C.

Activation of phospholipase D (PLD) and phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PI-PLC) by fluoride, to stimulate heterotrimeric G-proteins, and by phorbol esters, to stimulate protein kinase C (PKC), was studied in rat atria. Anti-inflammatory compounds from Sideritis javalambrensis n-hexane extract.

The anti-inflammatory activities of the n-hexane extract of Sideritis javalambrensis and several purified fractions were investigated using the carrageenan mouse paw edema test. Progressive fractionation led to the isolation of the active principles ent-16-hydroxy-13-epimanoyl oxide [1] and esters of tyrosol with palmitic, stearic, behenic, and lignoceric acids.

The objective of this study was to test a regenerative medicine strategy for the regeneration of articular cartilage. This approach combines microfracture of the subchondral bone with the implant at the site of the cartilage defect of a supporting biomaterial in the form of microspheres aimed at creating an adequate biomechanical environment for the differentiation of the mesenchymal stem cells that migrate from the bone marrow. Influence of gallic acid esters on drug-metabolizing enzymes of rat liver

The effect of three antioxidants, propyl, octyl and dodecyl gallate, on hepatic drug metabolism in male rats was studied in vivo and in vitro. When fed at a dietary concentration of 1% for 14 days, only dodecyl gallate increased relative liver weight. Cytochrome P-450 content was not influenced, but a slight increase in cytochrome b5 content was observed after the feeding of propyl gallate. Monooxygenase activity (benzo[a]pyrene-hydroxylase and ethoxycoumarin-deethylase activities) was not affected by propyl or octyl gallate, but a significant decrease in benzo[a]pyrene-hydroxylase activity was apparent in rats fed dodecyl gallate. The effects of phorbol esters on choline phospholipid hydrolysis in heart and brain

The efflux of choline was determined in rat striatal slices, incubated chicken atria and perfused chicken hearts. 4 beta-Phorbol-12 beta,13 alpha-dibutyrate (PDB) and 4 beta-phorbol-12 beta-myristate, 13 alpha-acetate (PMA) were used to stimulate protein kinase C. The other phorbol esters, 4 beta-phorbol-13 alpha-acetate (PAc) and 4 alpha-phorbol-12 beta,13 alpha-didecanoate (4 alpha PDD), known to be inactive, were tested to evaluate the specificity of the responses.
