Ethical dilemmas and well-being in teachers’ work : A three-wave, two-year longitudinal study
2023
The aim of the present longitudinal study was two-fold: First, to explore what kinds of ethical dilemma groups can be identified among Finnish teachers (n = 310) and second, to examine how these groups differ from each other with respect to occupational well-being and recovery from job strain over the two-year follow-up. Using Latent Profile Analysis, three ethical dilemma prevalence groups were identified: rare (27%), occasional (51%), and frequent dilemmas (22%). Teachers in frequent dilemmas group reported highest burnout, however, their recovery from job strain improved and their burnout (exhaustion) diminished over time. To reduce teachers’ ethical dilemmas different approaches are pro…
Workaholism and Work Engagement: How Are They Similar? How Are They Different? A Meta-Analysis of Their Relation
2018
Workaholism and work engagement can be depicted, respectively, as the pathological and the healthy form of heavy work investment. The former has been described as an addiction to work, yielded by the combination of excessive working hours and compulsive working style, whilst the latter has recently been introduced in workplace health literature as a pleasant mental state consisting of vigor, dedication, and absorption. In spite of their different definitions and outcomes on individual and organizational life, workaholism and work engagement are not clearly and adequately distinguished by scholars and researchers, since these two constructs seem to show some overlapping features. The aim of …
Composition and corrosion phases of Etruscan Bronzes from Villanovan Age
2008
A neutron diffraction (ND) and neutron tomography (NT) study of laminated ancient bronzes was performed at the ISIS (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK) neutron source and at the BENSC reactor (Hahn-Meitner Institut, Germany). The samples are part of an 8th century BC Etruscan collection discovered in the necropolises of Osteria-Poggio Mengarelli and Cavalupo in the Vulci area (Viterbo, Italy). The study allowed us to derive-in a totally non-destructive manner-information related to the main composition of the objects, possible presence of alterations and their nature, crusts and inclusions, as well as structure of the bulk. The presence of some components is linked to a variety of question…
Digitaalinen diskurssi työelämän kontekstissa – menetelmällisiä haasteita ja ratkaisuehdotuksia
2020
Digital technologies have become an inseparable part of most workplace activities. In this article, we discuss the study of digital work in the context of complex organizational practices. We lay out some methodological challenges and suggest some possible solutions to them. Firstly, we contend that we should take into consideration the multimedial nature of organizational practices. Secondly, several kinds of data – such as video-recordings of face-to-face encounters, screenshots from digital platforms, ethnographic observation and interviews – may be needed to gain an understanding of such practices. Thirdly, the analyst needs to pay attention to the affordances of the media that the part…
The impact of various cations on the sorption of manganese in the thallus of freshwater algae Spirogyra sp. and sea algae Palmaria palmata
2014
Do badań wykorzystano słodkowodne glony Spirogyra sp., które w warunkach laboratoryjnych eksponowano w roztworach chlorku manganu o różnym udziale innych kationów, m.in. metali ciężkich i makroelementów. Wykazano, że niektóre metale ciężkie mogą desorbować mangan związany powierzchniowo n…
Język metaforyczny w modelu Wrocławskiej Szkoły Przyszłości
2020
Taką edukację we Wrocławskiej Szkole Prz…
Signal Recognition Particle 54 kD Protein (SRP54) from the Marine Sponge Geodia cydonium
2002
In the systematic search for phylogenetically conserved proteins in the simplest and most ancient extant metazoan phylum – Porifera, we have identified and analyzed a cDNA encoding the signal recognition particle 54 kD protein (SRP54) from the marine sponge Geodia cydonium (Demospongiae). The signal recognition particle (SRP) is a universally conserved ribonucleoprotein complex of a very ancient origin, comprising SRP RNA and several proteins (six in mammals). The nucleotide sequence of the sponge cDNA predicts a protein of 499 amino acid residues with a calculated Mr of 55175. G. cydonium SRP54 displays unusually high overall similarity (90 %) with human/mammalian SRP54 proteins, higher th…
Excess electronic recoil events in XENON1T
2020
We report results from searches for new physics with low-energy electronic recoil data recorded with the XENON1T detector. With an exposure of 0.65 t-y and an unprecedentedly low background rate of $76\pm2$ events/(t y keV) between 1 and 30 keV, the data enables sensitive searches for solar axions, an enhanced neutrino magnetic moment, and bosonic dark matter. An excess over known backgrounds is observed at low energies and most prominent between 2 and 3 keV. The solar axion model has a 3.4$\sigma$ significance, and a 3D 90% confidence surface is reported for axion couplings to electrons, photons, and nucleons. This surface is inscribed in the cuboid defined by $g_{ae}<3.8 \times 10^{-12}$,…

Microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model in the study of the beta decay of Cd-115
2013
This master’s thesis concerns the use of the microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model in the study of the beta minus decay of Cd-115. The first part of this text concentrates on the theoretical description of nearly spherical open-shell odd-A nuclei by using the microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model. The treatment of the subject is far from exhaustive but all the necessary relations needed in the practical application of the formalism are provided in the text. The second part provides the theory that is needed for the study of beta minus decay. In addition to the general theory of forbidden beta minus decay, also the greatly simplified case of allowed transitions are discussed. Again rather …
