Restricted compositions and permutations: from old to new Gray codes

2011

Any Gray code for a set of combinatorial objects defines a total order relation on this set: x is less than y if and only if y occurs after x in the Gray code list. Let @? denote the order relation induced by the classical Gray code for the product set (the natural extension of the Binary Reflected Gray Code to k-ary tuples). The restriction of @? to the set of compositions and bounded compositions gives known Gray codes for those sets. Here we show that @? restricted to the set of bounded compositions of an interval yields still a Gray code. An n-composition of an interval is an n-tuple of integers whose sum lies between two integers; and the set of bounded n-compositions of an interval si…

Statistics-preserving bijections between classical and cyclic permutations

2012

Recently, Elizalde (2011) [2] has presented a bijection between the set C"n"+"1 of cyclic permutations on {1,2,...,n+1} and the set of permutations on {1,2,...,n} that preserves the descent set of the first n entries and the set of weak excedances. In this paper, we construct a bijection from C"n"+"1 to S"n that preserves the weak excedance set and that transfers quasi-fixed points into fixed points and left-to-right maxima into themselves. This induces a bijection from the set D"n of derangements to the set C"n"+"1^q of cycles without quasi-fixed points that preserves the weak excedance set. Moreover, we exhibit a kind of discrete continuity between C"n"+"1 and S"n that preserves at each s…

Insights into Intrinsic Defects and the Incorporation of Na and K in the Cu2ZnSnSe4 Thin-Film Solar Cell Material from Hybrid-Functional Calculations

2016

We have performed density functional theory calculations using the HSE06 hybrid functional to investigate the energetics, atomic, and electronic structure of intrinsic defects as well as Na and K impurities in the kesterite structure of the Cu2ZnSnSe4 (CZTSe) solar cell material. We found that both Na and K atoms prefer to be incorporated into this material as substitutional defects in the Cu sublattice. At this site highly stable (Na–Na), (K–K), and (Na–K) dumbbells can form. While Na interstitial defects are stable in CZTSe, the formation of K interstitial defects is unlikely. In general, the calculated formation energies for Na-related defects are always lower compared to their K-related…

Comparative Theoretical Analysis of BN Nanotubes Doped with Al, P, Ga, As, In, and Sb

2013

SUMMARY AND CONCLUDING REMARKS We have performed large-scale first-principles calculations ofthe electronic structure of (5,5) boron nitride nanotubescontaining the following substitutional impurity atoms: Al, P,Ga, As, In, and Sb. Calculations have been performed using thetwo methods: (i) linear combination of atomic orbitals(LCAO) with the atomic-centered Gaussian-type functions asa basis set and (ii) linearized augmented cylindrical wave(LACW) accompanied with the local density functional andmuffin-tin approximations for the electronic potential. In arelatively good qualitative agreement, both methods predict lowformation energies and, thus, relative stability of point defectsthat are assoc…

Nonlinear optical response of bulk ZnO crystals with different content of intrinsic defects

2018

Abstract The nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of native defect-rich ZnO single crystals were studied in details within the excitation of the continuous wave (CW) and pulsed laser radiation at 532 nm (2.33 eV). Analysis of the experimental data of optical elastic scattering, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), near infrared–visible–ultraviolet (NIR–Vis–UV) spectra recorded in reflection and absorption modes, and data of photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy confirmed the contribution of both intrinsic defects and their clusters, being determined before by neutron diffraction and XRD analysis. It was shown that the high sensitivity of the NLO diagnostics via self-action of a laser beam is due …

A multilayer model for self-propagating high-temperature synthesis of inter-metallic compounds

2007

International audience; Self-propagating high-temperature synthesis of intermetallic compounds is of wide interest. We consider reactions in a binary system in which the rise and fall of the temperature during the reaction is such that one of the reacting metals melts but not the other. For such a system, using the phase diagram of the binary system, we present a general theory that describes the reaction taking place in a single solid particle of one component surrounded by the melt of the second component. The theory gives us a set of kinetic equations that describe the propagation of the phase interfaces in the solid particle and the change in composition of the melt that surrounds it. I…

Synthesis of ZnO–Ag2CO3–Fe3O4@rGO core–shell structure: magnetically separable photocatalyst for degradation of MB using the Box–Behnken design

2020

In this work, a simple microwave method was utilized to prepare ZnO sheet linked with Fe3O4@rGO core–shell and of Ag2CO3 through formation of the quadri-photocatalytic with high activity. The microstructure, morphology, spectroscopic, and magnetic characteristics of the prepared samples were assessed using XRD, SEM, PL, TEM, FT-IR, DLS, and VSM analysis. The photocatalytic activity of the material was evaluated for photodegradation of methylene blue dye under the UV and visible light with home-made photoreactor. The response surface method in a Box–Behnken design was utilized to design the experiments. The parameters affecting the efficiency of the degradation including, pH (5–9), photocata…

Acoustic vibrations of monoclinic zirconia nanocrystals

2011

International audience; Polarized low-frequency Raman spectra originating from confined acoustic vibrations are reported for monoclinic ZrO2 nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution synthesized from a continuous supercritical water process. The monoclinic lattice structure is taken into account for the interpretation of the spectra by comparing with isotropic and anisotropic continuum elasticity calculations for monodomain nanocrystals. The various mechanisms leading to the broadening of the Raman peaks are discussed. We demonstrate that an accurate determination of the size distribution of the nanoparticles is possible using the Raman peak due to the fundamental breathing vibration wh…
