Satb2 Regulates Callosal Projection Neuron Identity in the Developing Cerebral Cortex

SummarySatb2 is a DNA-binding protein that regulates chromatin organization and gene expression. In the developing brain, Satb2 is expressed in cortical neurons that extend axons across the corpus callosum. To assess the role of Satb2 in neurons, we analyzed mice in which the Satb2 locus was disrupted by insertion of a LacZ gene. In mutant mice, β-galactosidase-labeled axons are absent from the corpus callosum and instead descend along the corticospinal tract. Satb2 mutant neurons acquire expression of Ctip2, a transcription factor that is necessary and sufficient for the extension of subcortical projections by cortical neurons. Determination of sialic acid and gangliosides in biological samples and dairy products: A review

Gangliosides are sphingolipids containing one or more moieties of sialic acid in their structure. Both gangliosides and sialic acid are bioactive compounds related to animal physiology. Due to their biological relevance, analytical methods adapted to each type of matrix have been developed over time. The present study reviews the main methods applied to the analysis of sialic acid and gangliosides in biological samples and dairy products.

Vascular resistance arm of the baroreflex: methodology and comparison with the cardiac chronotropic arm.

Baroreflex response consists of cardiac chronotropic (effect on heart rate), cardiac inotropic (on contractility), venous (on venous return) and vascular (on vascular resistance) arms. Because of its measurement simplicity, cardiac chronotropic arm is most often analysed. The aim was to introduce a method to assess vascular baroreflex arm, and to characterize its changes during stress. Stochastic models for wind speed forecasting

Abstract This paper is concerned with the problem of developing a general class of stochastic models for hourly average wind speed time series. The proposed approach has been applied to the time series recorded during 4 years in two sites of Sicily, a region of Italy, and it has attained valuable results in terms both of modelling and forecasting. Moreover, the 24 h predictions obtained employing only 1-month time series are quite similar to those provided by a feed-forward artificial neural network trained on 2 years data.

Disorder and interactions in systems out of equilibrium : the exact independent-particle picture from density functional theory

Density functional theory (DFT) exploits an independent-particle-system construction to replicate the densities and current of an interacting system. This construction is used here to access the exact effective potential and bias of non-equilibrium systems with disorder and interactions. Our results show that interactions smoothen the effective disorder landscape, but do not necessarily increase the current, due to the competition of disorder screening and effective bias. This puts forward DFT as a diagnostic tool to understand disorder screening in a wide class of interacting disordered systems.

Professional vision of Grade 1 teachers experiencing different levels of work-related stress

This study explored teachers' professional vision by examining how teachers experiencing low, moderate and high work-related stress reason their eye-tracking recordings in terms of description, explanation and prediction. A qualitative analysis of retrospective think-aloud interviews with 24 Grade 1 teachers showed that teachers predominantly used description in their reasoning, while explanation and prediction were less frequent. The description mainly focused on teacher information/elaboration and classroom management/behaviour. This paper reports the application of artificial neural networks for estimating reference evapotranspiration (ETo) as a function of local maximum and minimum air temperatures and exogenous relative humidity and evapotranspiration in twelve coastal locations of the autonomous Valencia region, Spain.
