Indirect oxidation of the antitumor agent procarbazine by tyrosinase—Possible application in designing anti-melanoma prodrugs
2008
The interaction of tyrosinase with the anticancer drug procarbazine has been investigated. In the presence of the enzyme alone no oxidation of this dialkylhydrazine above the background level was observed. However, when phenolic substrates (4-tert-butylcatechol or N-acetyl-l-tyrosine) were included in the reaction mixture, procarbazine was rapidly degraded. Oxygen consumption measurements showed that in a mixture both the phenolic substrate and the drug were oxidized. The major product of procarbazine degradation was isolated and identified as azoprocarbazine, the first active metabolite of this drug detected in previous in vivo and in vitro studies. This indirect oxidation of the hydrazine…
Studentmobilitet i høyere utdanning : Muligheten som fostrer ambisjoner og endrer selvforståelse
2018
Masteroppgave global utvikling og samfunnsplanlegging UT505 - Universitetet i Agder 2018 The background for this paper is to identity how foreign exchange affects future prospects for students. In higher education today, studies, exchange, internships and field courses abroad is a possibility for many students, which creates student mobility where one can participate in higher education across national borders. Data was collected by interviewing students that had a variation in age, nationality and education. The only claim for participating in data collection, was that the students were at the moment students at University of Agder and had been or was currently on foreign studies. The anal…
A new method to "clean up" ultra high-frequency data
2007
In the applied econometrics, the availability of ultra high-frequency databases is having an important impact on the research market microstructure theory. The ultra high-frequency databases contain detailed reports of all the financial market activity information which is available. However, ultra high-frequency databases cannot be directly used. On one hand recording mistakes can be present, on the other hand missing information has to be inferred from the available data. In this paper, we propose a simple method in order to clean up the ultra high-frequency data from possible errors and we examine the method efficacy when we analyze data by using an autoregressive conditional duration (A…
Going international in order to share and learn: Erasmus experiences at University of Barcelona Rare Book and Manuscript CRAI Library
2022
Some Reflections on the Economic and Political Organisation of Private Neighbourhoods
2005
The spreading of privately organised and often gated neighbourhoods in many regions of the world has triggered a widespread discussion about the relations between social and urban development. This paper presents some reflections on the economic and political organisation of this type of housing. First, the club goods theory is used to explain the potential attractiveness of this form of housing for developers, local governments as well as residents. However, the club goods theory alone does not enable one to understand the global but regionally differentiated development. Therefore, second, this paper proposes to view the analysis of private neighbourhoods as club economies against the bac…
The Urban Park as a "Social Island". The ANP in the Participatory Project of Parco Uditore in Palermo
2019
An urban park provides many environmental and recreational facilities and services, and moreover it may become a catalyst for social energies and an instrument of community identification. This paper analyses whether participation and bottom-up planning may compensate institutional absences in implementation of urban parks, and how multiple criteria model may support socially shared decisions about their management. These issues are examined from the singular case of Parco Uditore in Palermo (Italy) that is located in a land which has been surprisingly undeveloped, despite the expansion of the city. The phases of promotion, planning and implementation of the park were the result of a synerg…
Discrete-time multioverlapping controller design for structural vibration control of tall buildings under seismic excitation
2012
Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/636878 In this paper, a computationally effective strategy to obtain multioverlapping controllers via the Inclusion Principle is applied to design discrete-time state-feedback multioverlapping LQR con- trollers for seismic protection of tall buildings. To compute the corresponding control actions, the proposed semidecentralized controllers only require state information from neighboring stories. This particular configuration of information exchange allows introducing a dramatic reduction in the transmission range required for a wireless imp…
Active-passive control strategy for adjacent buildings
2011
Author's version of a chapter in the book: 2011 Proceedings of the American Control Conference. Also available from the publisher at: http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?arnumber=05991059 In this paper, a control strategy to mitigate the vibrational response of adjacent buildings under seismic excitation is presented. The proposed strategy combines inter-building passive actuators with active actuators placed in the building stories. The main ideas are presented by means of a simplified two-building model; however, a semi-decentralized overlapping approach via the inclusion principle has been used to impose a proper information exchange structure suitable for wireless control of larg…
Has the Introduction of Bitcoin Futures on Regulated Exchanges Decreased Price Volatility?
2019
Master's thesis Business Administration BE501 - University of Agder 2019 Bitcoin is a tremendously debated phenomenon in the world of finance and in recent the scientific literature on the topic has expanded. In this thesis, the bitcoin to US dollar exchange rate is examined through various conditional variance models to describe its highly volatile nature. We examine whether the introduction of bitcoin futurescontractsin late 2017 has had a decreasing impact on price volatility by estimatingthe unconditional variance. The log-return of the bitcoin exchange rate is analysed, and there is evidence of volatility clustering and time-varying volatility. Consequently, the variance is modelled thro…
FMU-proxy : A Framework for Distributed Access to Functional Mock-up Units
2019
The main goal of the Functional Mock-up Interface (FMI) standard is to allow simulation models to be shared across tools. To accomplish this, FMI relies on a combination of XML-files and compiled C-code packaged in a zip archive. This archive is called an Functional Mock-up Unit (FMU) and uses the extension .fmu. In theory, an FMU can support multiple platforms, however this is not always the case and depends on the type of binaries the exporting tool was able to provide. Furthermore, a library providing FMI support may not be available in a particular language, and/or it may not support the whole standard. Another issue is related to the protection of Intellectual Property (IP). While an F…
