Soft tissue sarcoma in Italy: From epidemiological data to clinical networking to improve patient care and outcomes

2019

Sarcomas are rare malignant neoplasms that develop from mesenchymal cells and include a heterogeneous and large group of histological subtypes that may occur at any anatomical site. Soft tissue sarcomas (STS), the focus of this review, account for ≈70‒80% of sarcomas and represent <1% of all cancers. The heterogeneity of STS applies to both their topography and morphology, and 5-year survival can vary widely depending on disease stage and the complex interplay between anatomical site and histology for different STS subtypes. The rarity and heterogeneity of STS, together with other factors, such as the lack of clinical expertise often lead to difficulties and delays in making an accurate …

Object, problem, or subject?: A child with a disability as found in reports of professionals

2009

This study examined the representations of one Finnish child with disabilities as constructed in reports written by professionals. The professional action models which appeared in the discourse of the reports were also explored. The theoretical framework of the study was based on the social constructionist approach. Research data consisted of 145 documents, the analyses of which were based on critical discourse analysis developed by Fairclough (1992). Results indicated that the child with a disability was constructed in the documents in varying ways, either as an object, a problem, or a subject Professional expertise, mechanistic and objectivist practices, and seeing disability as an indivi…

Distinguishing between two crus : as easy as picking the right side ? : Effect of expertise on conceptual and perceptual representations of Beaujolai…

2017

Expertise was studied in cognitive psychology in order to understand the psychological mechanisms and the abilities involved in various areas of expertise. In the wine field, the few studies conducted on expertise suggest that the knowledge representation of experts is organized around “prototypes” derived from wines of different colours or grape varieties. The general purpose of this thesis was to address 1) theoretical questions about knowledge representation of wines among experts and novices, and 2) wine industry questions about Beaujolais wine perceptions. To this end, the effect of expertise on knowledge representations of wines was evaluated by comparing the performance of three diff…

2017

Info-communicationnal approach of medical cannabis self-medication : analysis of figures mobilized in knowledge legitimation within a community dedic…

2022

This thesis proposes an infocommunicational approach to self-medication with medical cannabis. We question the logic of knowledge legitimization in a context where the coercive power of the French state is exercised. We seek to understand how the use of cannabis is determined in a radically constrained legislative framework, for users in a recreational or self-medication approach, but also for doctors and patients in a medical approach. To do this, we analyze the processes of knowledge legitimization that allow the development of practical know-how allowing individuals to consume cannabis in a self-medication approach within clandestine health communities of practice, supported by participa…
