Automatic Assessment of Depression Based on Visual Cues: A Systematic Review
2019
International audience; Automatic depression assessment based on visual cues is a rapidly growing research domain. The present exhaustive review of existing approaches as reported in over sixty publications during the last ten years focuses on image processing and machine learning algorithms. Visual manifestations of depression, various procedures used for data collection, and existing datasets are summarized. The review outlines methods and algorithms for visual feature extraction, dimensionality reduction, decision methods for classification and regression approaches, as well as different fusion strategies. A quantitative meta-analysis of reported results, relying on performance metrics r…
Speciation of vanadium in urban, industrial and volcanic soils by a modified Tessier method
2016
Vanadium (V) concentrations in industrial, urban and volcanic soils were sequentially extracted using a modified Tessier's method. The voltammetric technique was used to determine V concentrations in solutions obtained from the various extraction steps. At the reference stations, the V concentrations (sum of four individual fractions) in soils ranged from 0.72 to 0.24 g kg(-1) dry weight (d.w.) with a mean value of 0.18 g kg(-1) d.w. V concentrations in soils of the Palermo urban area ranged from 0.34 to 2.1 g kg(-1) d.w., in the Milazzo (industrial) area between 0.26 and 5.4 g kg(-1) d.w. and in the volcanic area near Mt. Etna from 0.91 to 2.9 g kg(-1) d.w. When the V concentrations around…
Monolithic silica columns of various format in automated sample clean-up/multidimensional liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry for peptidomics.
2007
The following particulate and monolithic silica columns were implemented in a fully automated and flexible multidimensional LC/MS system with integrated sample clean-up, to perform the analysis of endogeneous peptides from filtered urine and plasma samples: restricted access sulphonic acid strong cation-exchanger (RAM-SCX) for sample clean-up, RP 18 Chromolith guard columns as trap columns and 100 microm I.D. monolithic RP 18 fused silica capillary columns as last LC dimension. The results show sufficient overall system reproducibility and repeatability. Implementation of monolithic silica columns added an additional flexibility with respect to flow rate variation and adjustment due to the …
3D printed fluidic platform with in-situ covalently immobilized polymer monolithic column for automatic solid-phase extraction
2020
Abstract In this work, 3D stereolithographic printing is proposed for the first time for the fabrication of fluidic devices aimed at in-situ covalent immobilization of polymer monolithic columns. Integration in advanced flow injection systems capitalized upon programmable flow was realized for fully automatic solid-phase extraction (SPE) and clean-up procedures as a ‘front-end’ to on-line liquid chromatography. The as-fabricated 3D-printed extraction column devices were designed to tolerate the pressure drop of forward-flow fluidic systems when handling large sample volumes as demonstrated by the determination of anti-microbial agents, plastic additives and monomers as models of emerging co…
Preparation of monolithic polymer-magnetite nanoparticle composites into poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene) tubes for uses in micro-bore HPLC sepa…
2021
[EN] This paper describes the fabrication of a novel microbore monolithic column modified with magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) prepared in a poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene) (EFTE) tubing, and its application as stationary phase for the chromatographic separation of phosphorylated compounds. In order to obtain the composite column, a two-step procedure was performed. The formation of a glycidyl methacrylate-based monolith inside the activated ETFE tube was firstly carried out. Then, two incorporation approaches of MNPs in monoliths were investigated. The generic polymer was modified with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) to be subsequently attached to MNP surfaces. Alternatively, AP…
Stability of Morphine, Morphine-3-Glucuronide, and Morphine-6-Glucuronide in Fresh Blood and Plasma and Postmortem Blood Samples
2001
The present study was designed to determine the stability of morphine and its glucuronides in spiked fresh blood and plasma from live individuals as well as in four authentic postmortem blood specimens for a time interval of up to six months. The samples were stored in glass vials at -20 degrees C, 4 degrees C, and 20 degrees C. Additionally, spiked samples were exposed to light through window glass and subjected to a forced-degradation study at 40 degrees C. Data were established using solid-phase extraction and high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to atmospheric pressure ionization mass spectrometry for isolation and quantitation, providing a sensitive and specific detection met…
Organic salts and aromatic substrates in two-component gel phase formation: the study of properties and release processes
2015
To identify gel phases able to act as confined reaction media or materials for the removal of organic pollutants, we studied two-component gel phases formed by naphthalenedisulfonate diimidazolium salts in the presence of some organic guests, in 1-propanol solution. Guests differing in π-surface area, bulkiness and electronic properties were taken into account. Soft materials obtained were investigated for their thermal stability, self-repairing ability and morphology. Furthermore, two-component gel phase formation was studied using resonance light scattering (RLS) measurements. Guest release processes from the gel phase were also studied. These processes were monitored as a function of tim…

Optimal extraction of motif patterns in 2D
2009
The combinatorial explosion of motif patterns occurring in 1D and 2D arrays leads to the consideration of special classes of motifs growing linearly with the size of the input array. Such motifs, called irredundant motifs, are able to succinctly represent all of the other motifs occurring in the same array within reasonable time and space bounds. In previous work irredundant motifs were extracted from 2D arrays in O (N 2 log 2 n log log n) and O (N 3) time, where N is the size of the 2D input array and n is its largest dimension. In this paper, we present an algorithm to extract irredundant motifs from 2D arrays that is quadratic in the size of the input. The input is defined on a binary al…
