Crafting messages to fight dishonesty: A field investigation of the effects of social norms and watching eye cues on fare evasion
2021
Abstract The impact of watching eyes cues and descriptive social norm messages on fare evasion was studied in two experiments that were conducted in two railway stations in France. In Study 1, a natural field experiment, passengers were exposed for a two-week period to either a control eye-cues poster or to an experimental eye-cues with a social norm messaging campaign. In Study 2, an artefactual experiment in the field, participants in the experimental train station were asked to participate in a lying task before and after they were exposed to the messaging campaign. The results from both studies suggest that although watching eye cues alone are not effective in a crowded train station, e…
SOCIO-CULTURAL FACTORS AND INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIVENESS
2015
Socio-cultural factors – shared values, norms and attitudes are significant, but less acknowledged sources of international competitiveness. Previous studies have found socio-cultural factors positively affecting various aspects of international competitiveness – entrepreneurship, innovation, productivity and international cooperation. These factors are more sustainable and less affected by external environment changes in comparison with the traditional factors. Socio-cultural factors provide an opportunity to develop competitiveness strategies based on unique advantages. This research aims to explore the impact of socio-cultural factors on international competiveness in small, open economi…
Exercise and Healthy Eating Intentions and Behaviors among Normal Weight and Overweight/Obese Adults
2016
Strong evidence suggests that exercise and eating behaviours are strongly linked. Theory of Planned Behaviour is a theoretical framework that has been successfully used to explain and predict both behaviours. The aim of the present study is to explore the constructs of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) that better predicts exercise and healthy eating: a) intentions and b) selfreported behaviors among normal weight and overweight/obese adults. Participants were 361 adults in Greece (women: N = 152). According to their BMI scores, they have been grouped into normal weight and overweight/obese. Data were collected with an online questionnaire assessing variables of the theory of planned behavio…
Room temperature ionic liquids structure and its effect on the mononuclear rearrangement of heterocycles: an approach using thermodynamic parameters.
2006
The kinetics of the rearrangement of the Z-phenylhydrazone of 3-benzoyl-5-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole (1) into the relevant 4-benzoylamino-2,5-diphenyl-1,2,3-triazole (2) induced by amines have been studied in five room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) at different temperatures. The kinetic data collected show that both cationic and anionic parts of RTILs significantly influence the reactivity of the title reaction. The calculated activation parameters allow us to advance hypotheses about the weak interactions operating in RTIL solutions.
On the Rearrangement in Dioxane/Water of (Z)-Arylhydrazones of 5-Amino-3-benzoyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole into (2-Aryl-5-phenyl-2H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)ureas: …
2006
We have recently evidenced an interesting differential behavior in the reactivity in dioxane/water between the (Z)-2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone (1a) and the (Z)-phenylhydrazone (1b) of 5-amino-3-benzoyl-1,2,4- oxadiazole. The former rearranges into the relevant triazole 2a only at pS+ > 4.5 while undergoing hydrolysis at high proton concentration (pS+ < 3.5); on the contrary, the latter rearranges into 2b in the whole pS+ range examined (0.1 e pS+ e 14.9). Thus, for a deeper understanding of these differences we have now collected kinetic data on the rearrangement in dioxane/water of a series of 3- or 4-substituted (Z)-phenylhydrazones (1c-l) of 5-amino-3-benzoyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole in a wide ra…
Organocatalytic enantioselective synthesis of 2,5,5-trisubstituted piperidines bearing a quaternary stereocenter. Vinyl sulfonamide as a new amine pr…
2020
An organocatalytic desymmetrizing intramolecular aza-Michael reaction with vinyl sulfonamides as nucleophilic nitrogen source has been devised for the synthesis of a new family of 2,5,5-trisubstituted piperidines bearing a quaternary sterocenter. The process takes place with excellent levels of enantioselectivity and moderate to good diastereoselectivity. The vinyl sulfonamide moiety can be removed by means of an ozonolysis reaction.
Photo-stabilization of biopolymers-based nanocomposites with UV-modified layered silicates
2020
Abstract Eco-friendly in-situ stabilised biopolymer nanocomposites based on polyamide 11 (PA11) and polylactic acid (PLA) were prepared by melt mixing in the presence of a modified organo-montmorillonite clay containing a chemically-bound hindered amine UV-stabilising function, [(UV)OM-MMt]. Characterisation of the newly synthesised organo-modifier containing the reactive hindered amine (HAS) UV-stabilising function [(UV)OM] has confirmed a successful synthesis. The (UV)OM was then introduced into NaMMt through ion exchange reaction to prepare the UV stabiliser-bound organo-modified-MMt, [(UV)OM-MMt]. The in-situ stabilised PA11- and PLA- nanocomposites (PA11-(UV)OM-MMt and PLA-(UV)OM-MMt) …
Zastosowanie magazynów ciepła do celów grzewczych i c.w.u
2018
Influence of the functionalisation of mesoporous silica material UVM-7 on polyphenol oxidase enzyme capture and enzymatic browning
2020
Polyphenol oxidase (PPO), also known as tyrosinase and catechol oxidase, is the enzyme responsible for enzymatic browning in foods. It causes undesirable organoleptic, nutritional and colour changes. Here, we report the preparation of five nanomaterials and a study of their ability to modulate PPO enzyme activity. The materials consist of UVM-7 supports (a mesoporous silica material) modified with diverse functional groups (i.e. amine, carboxylic acid, isocyanate, alkane and pyridine). We also studied the PPO immobilisation capability of the materials. All the materials, except the carboxylic acid functionalised one, offer high PPO loading capabilities and the immobilisation speed increases…
Carer’s experience of a brief systemic group intervention for Parents of young patients with Eating Disorders: A Qualitative Study.
2012
Introduction: Several studies support the importance of involving parents of adolescents with eating disorders (ED) to facilitate successful treatment. This study explored the experiences of parents of adolescents with ED after having participated in a brief systemic group intervention. Methodology: Data were obtained from a group of 12 parents (mean age = 51,82 ys; sd = 6,40), of adolescent outpatients (mean age = 18 ys; ds = 2,83) with ED, carried out in an Italian public center specializing in ED treatment. All participants filled in a questionnaire constructed specifically for this study measuring group helpful events for the individual and for the family. The content analysis was perfo…
