El ocaso del primer imperio mexicano. Agitación política y planes monárquicos en 1823
2021

Eugenics and American Economics in the Interwar Years: The Case of Thomas Nixon Carver
2017
The aim of this paper is to explore in some detail Carver’s eugenic ideas with a main, albeit non-exclusive, focus on the interwar years. Although his major contributions had all appeared prior to 1918, Carver remained particularly productive throughout the 1920s and 1930s, publishing several articles and eight books, which include The Principles of National Economy (1921), and The Essential Factors of Social Evolution (1935)—two works which contain significant traces of eugenic reasoning. Just as important, Carver’s interwar activities were not limited to academia. After his retirement from Harvard in 1932 he became involved in the activities of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, while i…

England 1523–1601: The Beginnings of Marine Insurance
2016
Extant information about early English marine insurance follows a discontinuous trend. It is remarkably scarce until the mid-sixteenth century, when it increases substantially in the space of a few years, only to fade again after a few decades, and return to growth towards the end of the seventeenth century. After that, plenty of records remain. However, this misbehaving trend does not affect our knowledge as much as would appear to be the case at first sight. The reason lies in the unparalleled continuity in English insurance policies, which remained nearly identical from the 1570s to the policy model prescribed in the Marine Insurance Act of 1906 (First Schedule). This makes up, at least …
2017
This paper seeks to analyse economy of a well-to-do peasant family settled in the urban fringes of the city of Valencia, capital of the kingdom, in the first half of fifteenth Century. The death of the head of the family, due to the plague, made emerge the solidarity of the relatives, who took care of the orphans. Thanks to the memorial of rents we can assess the economic strategies of a wealthier peasant family, the importance of markets and the city and countryside relations.
2020
This article studies the functioning of Venetian galere da mercato along one of the coastlines where they operated, that of Valencia. The system was known to have seven routes during the XIVth to the XVIth centuries and was used to collect goods at the point of arrival. The first galleys which carne to the port of Valencia (from Flanders) were in 1391, but the most active period was 1450-1534, from Aigues Mortes and Barbary. Analysis of fiscal and notarial records shows that the fleet system operated with the import of textiles, metal and spices and the export of wool, slaves and cloth, though the basic function of the market was the exchange of billion for spices. The market benefited fro…
Political science as a topic in post-war German Bundestag debates
2020
The conceptual history of politics in post-WWII (West-) Germany is connected to the history of academic political science. From the Bundestag plenary debates (beginning in September 1949) both the controversies on the political science itself and the contributors of both contemporary scholars and the ‘classics’ of the understanding of politics can be studied. The digitalisation of parliamentary debates opens up new chances for conceptual research in this regard. The article studies the conceptual commitments in the use of the discipline titles (Politikwissenschaft, Politische Wissenschaft, Politologie, Politikforschung, Politische Theorie, also political science) and actors (Politologe, Pol…
Historia y memoria de la educación : HMe
2019
