A new technique for the treatment of nasal telangiectasia using atmospheric plasma (voltaic arc dermabrasion): Postoperative pain assessment by therm…
2020
Background Nasal telangiectasias are superficial, small vessels in the ala nasi and nasolabial crease with a varying origin. They represent an unaesthetic condition, frustrating patients who frequently request their removal. Microsclerotherapy, electrosurgery, different types of laser therapy, needle-assisted electrocoagulation, and TRASER therapy have been described for treating this condition. Aims The aim of this study is to describe a novel technique that removes nasal telengectiasias using voltaic arc dermabrasion (VAD). Patients/methods Voltaic arc dermabrasion treatment was used to remove nasal telangiectasia in 23 patients. The post-treatment condition was monitored by means of phot…
A girl with an atypical form of ataxia telangiectasia and an additional de novo 3.14Mb microduplication in region 19q12
2011
A 9-year-old girl born to healthy parents showed manifestations suggestive of ataxia telangiectasia (AT), such as short stature, sudden short bouts of horizontal and rotary nystagmus, a weak and dysarthric voice, rolling gait, unstable posture, and atactic movements. She did not show several cardinal features typical of AT such as frequent, severe infections of the respiratory tract. In contrast, she showed symptoms not generally related to AT, including microcephaly, profound motor and mental retardation, small hands and feet, severely and progressively reduced muscle tone with slackly protruding abdomen and undue drooling, excess fat on her upper arms, and severe oligoarthritis. A cranial…
Idiopathische makuläre Teleangiektasie (IMT) – Verlaufsbeobachtung mit und ohne Laserphotokoagulation
2010
Purpose The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of laser photocoagulation for idiopathic macular telangiectasia (IMT) by using the revised and simplified classification of Yannuzzi 2006. Patients and methods The Yannuzzi classification was used for a retrospective analysis of the medical records of all patients with idiopathic macular telangiectasia as diagnosed consecutively in the University Eye Clinic of Mainz in the time period from 1 / 02 to 12 / 06. Laser treatment was indicated only in those eyes which presented with a visual acuity below 10 / 20 (follow-up interval in median 37 months, minimum 13 months). Results 12 patients with unilateral macular telangiectasia (IM…
Hilar Fusion: A Rare Renal Malformation
1988
An uncommon case of a 42-year-old man with hilar renal symphysis in association with lithiasis and 'tubular precalyceal ectasia' is described.
Ectasia and Aneurysm of the Right Coronary Artery Resulting From a Shunt to the Coronary Sinus
1998
A 65-year-old woman presented with a systolic-diastolic murmur. Further MRI investigations as well as angiography revealed an arteriovenous shunt to the coronary sinus via an enlarged right coronary artery (Figure 1A⇓ and 1B⇓). The distal part of this coronary artery was transformed to a large coronary aneurysm of such extent that the left atrium was compressed …
Consequences of analgesics use in early pregnancy: Results of tests on mice.
2019
International audience; Self-medication during pregnancy continues to be an issue in developing countries due topoor medical education. The most commonly used drugs are analgesics, mainlyacetaminophen (paracetamol, APAP) and, to a lesser extent, ketoprofen (KPF). The aim of thestudy was to establish whether there are consequences of accidental use of these two drugsduring early embryogenesis. The experimental study was performed on 30 pregnant whitemice, divided into three groups: a first group to which APAP was administered, a secondgroup to which KPF was administered, and group 3 as a control group. At delivery, the babymice were examined, and after their first parturition, they were take…
Spinal anaesthesia in a patient with post-spine surgery dural ectasia.
2013
Dural sac ectasia is a very infrequent anatomical abnormality, usually caused by connective tissue diseases, as Marfan syndrome. Very few cases have been described being a consequence of a previous spine surgical procedure. We describe the case of an elderly patient who should be operated on twice due to sub-occlusive colon disease. Surgery was performed under spinal anaesthesia. A dural sac ectasia was suspected after the first procedure and the abdominal X-ray was reviewed. The characteristics of the anatomical alteration and the course of both anaesthetic procedures were described. X-ray and CT images were provided.
Late Activation of Stress-activated Protein Kinases/c-Jun N-terminal Kinases Triggered by Cisplatin-induced DNA Damage in Repair-defective Cells
2011
Although stress-activated protein kinases/c-Jun N-terminal kinases (SAPK/JNK) are rapidly activated by genotoxins, the role of DNA damage in this response is not well defined. Here we show that the SEK1/MKK4-mediated dual phosphorylation of SAPK/JNK (Thr-183/Tyr-185) correlates with the level of cisplatin-DNA adducts at late times (16–24 h) after drug treatment in both human and mouse cells. Transfection of platinated plasmid DNA also caused SAPK/JNK activation. A defect in transcription-coupled nucleotide excision repair resting on a mutation in Cockayne syndrome group B protein promoted the late SAPK/JNK activation following cisplatin exposure. Signaling to SAPK/JNK was accompanied by act…
