Learning complex analysis in different branches – Project Spotlight-Y for future teachers

2018

International audience; At the University of Bremen in teaching complex analysis, we split the last part of the lecture into two branches according to profession: While future mathematicians deepen their understanding in a branch for them, future teachers take a branch of the lecture where they prepare a task with dynamical geometry software for pupils which is based on phenomena of complex analysis. Here, we describe the design of the course, some general aims and first results obtained from the branch for future teachers.

Intraflagellar transport protein 172 is essential for primary cilia formation and plays a vital role in patterning the mammalian brain

2008

AbstractIFT172, also known as Selective Lim-domain Binding protein (SLB), is a component of the intraflagellar transport (IFT) complex. In order to evaluate the biological role of the Ift172 gene, we generated a loss-of-function mutation in the mouse. The resulting Slb mutant embryos die between E12.5 and 13.0, and exhibit severe cranio-facial malformations, failure to close the cranial neural tube, holoprosencephaly, heart edema and extensive hemorrhages. Cilia outgrowth in cells of the neuroepithelium is initiated but the axonemes are severely truncated and do not contain visible microtubules. Morphological and molecular analyses revealed a global brain-patterning defect along the dorsal–…

Sonic hedgehog promotes the migration and proliferation of optic nerve oligodendrocyte precursors.

2007

Optic nerve (ON) oligodendrocyte precursors (OPCs) are generated under the influence of the Sonic hedgehog (Shh) in the preoptic area from where they migrate to colonise the entire nerve. The molecular events that control this migration are still poorly understood. Recent studies suggested that Shh is often used by the same cell population to control different processes, including cell proliferation and migration, raising the possibility that Shh could contribute to these aspects of OPC development. In support of this idea, we show here that Shh induces the proliferation of OPCs derived from embryonic mouse ON explants and acts as a chemoattractant for their migration. In ovo injections of …

Constructive characters of the Western Sicilian masonry in the XVIII and XIX centuries

2016

An Archimedean research theme: the calculation of the volume of cylindrical groins

2010

Starting from Archimedes’ method for calculating the volume of cylindrical wedges, I want to get to describe a method of 18th century for cilindrical groins thought by Girolamo Settimo and Nicolo di Martino. Several mathematicians studied the measurement of wedges, by applying notions of infinitesimal and integral calculus; in particular I examinated Settimo’s Treatise on cylindrical groins, where the author solved several problems by means of integrals.

Performing arts and mediation technology in the period of lockdown

2021

Advancements in digital technologies have become novel ways to enrich communication, expression, and transmission of arts knowledge. Technology is increasingly implemented in the performance space, as a source of inspiration for artists. Especially in this period of lockdown, mediation technology has turned out to be an essential tool for different aspects of social life, as in performing arts. With venues, schools and artistic activities closed, performers, students and spectators have been obliged to keep connecting in remote conditions. This article wants to retrace the aesthetic impact of mediation technology in performing arts during this period of lockdown by focusing on the aspects t…

This article wants to retrace the aesthetic impact of mediation technology in performing arts during this period of lockdown by focusing on the aspects that induced advancements of strategies for the transmission of performing arts. The goal is to illustrate the potentialities as well as the challenges of the arttechnology encounter by underlining the transformation of the interaction with and perception of the performance space in remote conditions and in distance learning. The implementation of digital technologies is contributing to the evolution of the performing arts sector by facilitating futuristic approaches. 402 412mediation technology has turned out to be an essential tool for different aspects of social lifeas in performing arts. De la performance musicale dans la Guyane traditionnelle : expression cognitive singulière d?une musique-verbe

2021

Guianese culture and traditional music, here evoked, are various. It is more a transcultural process that, along centuries, gave an original result born in the Americas, in Guiana in this case. It is a form of refoundation, of recreation of cultures and new human beings generally called Creoles. The musical performance, that I study here, is the echo of social and cultural space of this reformulation of thought, life, and conception of the world. It is, as well, a mean of transposition and transformation of the values issued of diverse sources and categories. It is in no way a second-rate cultural practice, as it is the place where were born philosophies and actions for common life as well …

as it is the place where were born philosophies and actions for common life as well as for individual life. This organization of the musical experience requires several levels of readings to better understand the underlying performance that is the issue discussed here. What is then the subject of the musical performance in French Guianese traditional society? What are the implementation techniques and the intrinsic forms of knowledge? What is the creation process and for what goal? Without a doubtlifeUNESCO::CIENCIAS DE LAS ARTES Y LAS LETRASand conception of the world. And the answers one can give are just as numerous.
