Since sponges, as typical filter-feeders, are exposed to a high load of attacking prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms, they are armed with a wide arsenal of antimicrobial/cytostatic low-molecular-weight, non-proteinaceous bioactive compounds. Here we present the first sponge agent belonging to the group of ASABF-type antimicrobial peptides. The ASABF gene was identified and cloned from the demospongeSuberites domuncula. The mature peptide, with a length of 64 aa residues has a predicted pI of 9.24, and comprises the characteristic CSαβ structural motif. There are three main subjects : acquisitions' social inequalities, teacher-effect and children' interest about in class musical activities. Endovenous ablation of refluxing saphenous and perforating veins.

Abstract. Since the end of the nineties endovenous thermal ablation and more recently non-thermal, non-tumescent techniques have been developed and improved. Until now, because of their favourable side effect profile in conjunction to sustained efficacy, in many countries they already replaced high ligation and stripping in the treatment of refluxing saphenous veins as well as for treatment of perforators and selected tributaries. Now, studies and comparative trials are available with long-term follow-ups for most of the techniques, providing valid data on occlusion and reflux rates, side effect profiles, and health related quality of life.

Concomitant food intake can diminish oral absorption of drugs with limited permeability and an absorption window in the proximal intestine, due to viscosity-mediated decrease in dosage form disintegration time and drug dissolution rate. The thermally stimulated relaxation (TSR) processes in CaF2, BaF2 and LiBaF3 crystals (X-ray irradiated at LNT or RT) have been investigated by means of the ionic conductivity, thermally stimulated (TS) ionic depolarization current (TSDC), TS current (TSC), TS luminescence (TSL) and thermal bleaching techniques. The ionic TSDC measurements evidence that under DC field fluorides accumulate large ionic space-charge (thermoelectric state is formed) as a result of the migrating anion interstitial and/or vacancy capture on defects. Acidochromism of the luminescence of bis(4-pyridylethenyl)arenes

Abstract A series of C 2 -symmetrical bis[( E )-2-(4-pyridyl)ethenyl]arenes has been synthesised via two-fold PO-activated olefinations. 1,4-Benzene, 1,4-naphthalene, 9,10-anthracene and 2,2′-diphenyl were used as central units. These fluorescent compounds were freely soluble in common solvents. The absorption and the emission were sensitive towards solvent polarity and acid, in solution as well as in the solid state. Depending on the concentration of acid, protonation of the ground state and/or the excited state caused reductions of the fluorescence efficiencies, accompanied by bathochromic shifts of the absorption and the emission spectra of some chromophores. Biexciton formation and exciton coherent coupling in layered GaSe.

Nonlinear two-dimensional Fourier transform (2DFT) and linear absorption spectroscopy are used to study the electronic structure and optical properties of excitons in the layered semiconductor GaSe. At the 1s exciton resonance, two peaks are identified in the absorption spectra, which are assigned to splitting of the exciton ground state into the triplet and singlet states. 2DFT spectra acquired for co-linear polarization of the excitation pulses feature an additional peak originating from coherent energy transfer between the singlet and triplet.
