Il Paradigma della Città Fluida
2013
Understanding the Impact of Opinion Leaders’ Characteristics on Online Group Knowledge-Sharing Engagement from In-Group and Out-Group Perspectives: E…
2019
Opinion leaders often play key roles in online knowledge-sharing communities, which has intrigued a lot of researchers and practitioners worldwide. However, it is not clear how various characteristics of opinion leaders may affect different online groups&rsquo
Effects of Carbon Emissions, Environmental Disclosures and CSR Assurance on Cost of Equity in Emerging Markets
2021
The objective of the paper is to empirically test the relation between carbon emissions, environmental disclosures, assurance of sustainability reports and firms&rsquo
The Inclusion of Socially Irresponsible Companies in Sustainable Stock Indices
2019
Social rating agencies implement complex filters to identify the companies with the best sustainable and social performance and help investors select the companies for their sustainable portfolios. This study analysed whether companies that are defined as ethical, sustainable and socially responsible by those agencies actually deserve this label. More specifically, the inclusion in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World of companies that have been involved in controversies according to the Thomson Reuters Eikon database was studied. The results show that the inclusion of irresponsible companies in the DJSI Index is a fact. This outcome is in line with previous studies t…
Evaluating the Eco-Efficiency of Wastewater Treatment Plants: Comparison of Optimistic and Pessimistic Approaches
2020
The assessment of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) performance has gained the interest of water utilities and water regulators. Eco-efficiency has been identified as a powerful indicator, as it integrates economic and environmental variables into a single index. Most previous studies have employed traditional data envelopment analysis (DEA) for the evaluation of WWTP eco-efficiency. However, DEA allows the selection of input and output weights for individual WWTPs for the calculation of eco-efficiency scores. To overcome this limitation, we employed the double-frontier and common set of weights methods to evaluate the eco-efficiency of a sample of 30 WWTPs in Spain. The WWTPs were ranked b…
SO2emissions and the environmental Kuznets curve: the case of Chinese provinces
2009
This paper aims at estimating the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) for the sulphur dioxide (SO2) emissions in a panel of 28 Chinese provinces. First, using a fixed effects model, econometric findings reveal an N shape EKC with a turning point of 4500 yuans (index 1990). However, a Chow test reveals a break in 1995, so that the estimation of the model indicates an increasing linear relationship between GDP per capita and SO2 emissions. The previous results imply that the decrease of the Chinese sulphur dioxide emissions during 1996–1999 did not result from the ECK but from an exogenous public action.
University student talent: the real driver for performance?
2017
Investigation about the university student performance, and its measurement, are very crucial issues for any policy maker. Since the economic crisis, jobs market requires even higher skills and competences. Literature offers a lot of papers about the university student quality and performance, in order to identify the main determinants of them. Often, results are very different, and they seems to hold just in a specific context. This paper aims to investigate the role of a latent variable that can take into account the student motivation, aptitude, and abilities, here conveniently called talent. A random effect Quantile Regression on a new measure of Italian student performance has been ado…
The reactivity of 2-vinylindoles with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate
1984
Abstract The overall rates of reaction of 1-substltuted-1- (1-methyl-2-indolyl)ethenes with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate are considerably lower than those of the corresponding 2-vinyl- pyrroles. Steric interaction between the N-methyl group on the indole ring and the 1-substituent on the ethenyl group prevents the diene system adopting a coplanar cisoid configuration and, thereby, inhibits the π4 + π2 cycloaddition reaction of the system with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate. Under such conditions, the indolylethene preferentially undergoes a Michael addition reaction at the 3-position. The π4 + π2 cycloaddition reaction is promoted at elevated temperatures. No evidence was found for a Co…
The impact of cultural and creative industries on the wealth of countries, regions and municipalities
2021
[EN] This paper compares the total impact of cultural and creative industries (CCIs) on per capita income of countries, regions and municipalities. We estimate the total effects of CCIs in 78 developed and developing countries in 5 continents, in 275 European regions and in 518 municipalities in the European region of Valencia, using data obtained from multiple databases and nonparametric local linear least squares. The average effects of CCIs are positive in the three territorial scales, in both low- and high-income locations, and increase in conjunction with increases in development, with high and very high developed places showing greater impacts. CCIs are, thus, a powerful resource for …
Reproductive medicine and inheritance of infertility by offspring: the role of fetal programming.
2011
Objective To summarize the molecular processes involved in fetal programming, to describe how assisted reproduction technologies (ART) may affect the epigenetic pattern of the embryo, and to highlight the current knowledge of the role of perinatal events in the subsequent development of reproductive pathology affecting infertile patients. Design A literature review of fetal programming of adulthood gynecologic diseases and ART. A Medline search was performed with the following keywords: (fetal programming OR epigenetics OR methylation OR acetylation) AND (IVF OR ART) AND (gynecology). Articles up to October 2010 were selected. Articles and recent reviews were classified by human and animals…
