Beta-forging of Ti6Al4V titanium alloy powders consolidated by HIP: Plastic flow and strain-rate relation

2014

Ti6Al4V is probably the best known and studied titanium alloy, not only for aerospace applications. Nevertheless the deformation behavior still represents a challenge if any modification in the deformation process is required or introduced. This work deals with deformation behavior description of Ti6Al4V HIPped powders during high temperature deformation tests carried on in the Beta-region. Laboratory compression and tensile tests have been coupled with relaxation tests in order to achieve robust data about strain rate sensibility m-coefficient and activation energy Q. These results have been fitted for the assessment of a more general exponential deformation law. The final result is a “Dor…

La 1−xCaxMnO3 semiconducting nanostructures: morphology and thermoelectric properties

2014

Semiconducting metallic oxides, especially perosvkite materials, are great candidates for thermoelectric applications due to several advantages over traditionally metallic alloys such as low production costs and high chemical stability at high temperatures. Nanostructuration can be the key to develop highly efficient thermoelectric materials. In this work, La 1−xCa x MnO3 perosvkite nanostructures with Ca as a dopant have been synthesized by the hydrothermal method to be used in thermoelectric applications at room temperature. Several heat treatments have been made in all samples, leading to a change in their morphology and thermoelectric properties. The best thermoelectric efficiency has b…

Magnéli oxides as promising n-type thermoelectrics

2014

The discovery of a large thermopower in cobalt oxides in 1997 lead to a surge of interest in oxides for thermoelectric application. Whereas conversion efficiencies of p-type oxides can compete with non-oxide materials, n-type oxides show significantly lower thermoelectric performances. In this context so-called Magneli oxides have recently gained attention as promising n-type thermoelectrics. A combination of crystallographic shear and intrinsic disorder lead to relatively low thermal conductivities and metallic-like electrical conductivities in Magneli oxides. Current peak-zT values of 0.3 around 1100 K for titanium and tungsten Magneli oxides are encouraging for future research. Here, we …

Preferred Growth Direction by PbS Nanoplatelets Preserves Perovskite Infrared Light Harvesting for Stable, Reproducible, and Efficient Solar Cells

2020

Formamidinium-based perovskite solar cells (PSCs) present the maximum theoretical efficiency of the lead perovskite family. However, formamidinium perovskite exhibits significant degradation in air. The surface chemistry of PbS has been used to improve the formamidinium black phase stability. Here, the use of PbS nanoplatelets with (100) preferential crystal orientation is reported, to potentiate the repercussion on the crystal growth of perovskite grains and to improve the stability of the material and consequently of the solar cells. As a result, a vertical growth of perovskite grains, a stable current density of 23 mA cm(-2), and a stable incident photon to current efficiency in the infr…

Optical emission fromSiO2-embedded silicon nanocrystals: A high-pressure Raman and photoluminescence study

2015

We investigate the optical properties of high-quality Si nanocrystals $(\mathrm{NCs})/\mathrm{Si}{\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ multilayers under high hydrostatic pressure with Raman scattering and photoluminescence (PL) measurements. The aim of our study is to shed light on the origin of the optical emission of the Si $\mathrm{NCs}/\mathrm{Si}{\mathrm{O}}_{2}$. The Si NCs were produced by chemical-vapor deposition of Si-rich oxynitride $(\mathrm{SRON})/\mathrm{Si}{\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ multilayers with 5- and 4-nm SRON layer thicknesses on fused silica substrates and subsequent annealing at 1150 \ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}C, which resulted in the precipitation of Si NCs with an average size of 4.1 a…

Dual-broadband rotational CARS modelling of nitrogen at pressures up to 9 MPa. II. Rotational Raman line widths

2002

International audience; Rotational coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) is a well-established spectroscopic technique for thermometry at pre-combustion temperatures an atmospheric pressure. However, at pressures of several MPa, a previous investigation revealed large discrepancies between experimental data and the theoretical model. A re-evaluation has been made of these data (at room temperature and in the range 1.5-9 MPa) with two improvements to the spectral code. The first is the inclusion of an inter-branch interference effect, which is described in detail in Paper I. The second is the use of experimental S-1-branch Raman line widths measured at 295 K, with a temperature depe…

INTERPRETATION OF POTENTIAL INTERMITTENCE TITRATION TECHNIQUE EXPERIMENTS FOR VARIOUS Li-INTERCALATION ELECTRODES

2002

In this paper we compare two different approaches for the calculation of the enhancement factor Wi , based on its definition as the ratio of the chemical and the component diffusion coefficients for species in mixed-conduction electrodes, originated from the “dilute solution” or “lattice gas” models for the ion system. The former approach is only applicable for small changes of the ion concentration while the latter allows one to consider a broad range of intercalation levels. The component diffusion coefficient of lithium ions has been determined for a series of lithium intercalation anodes and cathodes. A new “enhancement factor” for the ion transport has been defined and its relations to…

Design, near-field characterization, and modeling of 45 circle surface-plasmon Bragg mirrors

2006

The development of surface plasmon polariton (SPP) optical elements is mandatory in order to achieve surface plasmon based photonics. A current approach to reach this goal is to take advantage of the interaction of SPP with defects and design elements obtained by the micro- or nano-structuration of the metal film. In this work, we have performed a detailed study of the performance and behavior of SPP-Bragg mirrors, designed for 45\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} incidence, based on this approach. Mirrors consisting of gratings of both metal ridges on the metal surface and grooves engraved in the metal, fabricated by means of electron beam lithography and focused ion beam, have been consi…
