The first glassy material was probably made in ancient Egypt some 4500 years ago, so the fact that the structure of glass is still one of the biggest puzzles in physics may come as a surprise. When a liquid is cooled very quickly, the atoms do not have time to arrange themselves into an ordered crystalline solid. Instead, the super cooled liquid falls out of equilibrium and into a disordered amorphous network, more commonly known as a glass.

Molecular Identification of Yeasts Associated with Traditional Egyptian Dairy Products

This study aimed to examine the diversity and ecology of yeasts associated with traditional Egyptian dairy products employing molecular techniques in yeast identification. A total of 120 samples of fresh and stored Domiati cheese, kariesh cheese, and "Matared" cream were collected from local markets and examined. Forty yeast isolates were cultured from these samples and identified using the restriction-fragment length polymorphism (RFLPs) of 5.8S-ITS rDNA region and sequencing of the domains D1 and D2 of the 26S rRNA gene. The Roman baths in Reggio Calabria (Italy) provides many information regarding both engineering and technology for this type of buildings. A small treasure of three survived mural paintings enclose information about the artistic style and the ancient luxury of the baths. The principal objective of this study is to generate mathematical regression equations that facilitate the estimation of the extent to which Eichhornia crassipes (C. Mart.) Solms, water hyacinth, absorbs heavy metals (HMs) into four plant organs (laminae, petioles, roots, and stolons). The ability of the native emergent macrophytes Typha domingensis for monitoring pollution with trace metals in Egyptian Lake Burullus was investigated through developing regression models for predicting their concentrations in the plant tissues. Immune suppression in advanced chronic fascioliasis: an experimental study in a rat model.

Chronicity and Th2 immune responses are features of helminth infections in humans. The liver fluke promotes its own survival through several strategies to down-regulate the immune response of the host during the early phase of infection. However, there is no evidence that this modulation occurs much later. The immune response in advanced chronic fascioliasis was analyzed in an experimental rat model at 20 weeks after infection.
