Estimates for Sums of Eigenvalues of the Free Plate via the Fourier Transform
2017
Using the Fourier transform, we obtain upper bounds for sums of eigenvalues of the free plate.
Supervised learning of time-independent Hamiltonians for gate design
2018
We present a general framework to tackle the problem of finding time-independent dynamics generating target unitary evolutions. We show that this problem is equivalently stated as a set of conditions over the spectrum of the time-independent gate generator, thus transforming the task to an inverse eigenvalue problem. We illustrate our methodology by identifying suitable time-independent generators implementing Toffoli and Fredkin gates without the need for ancillae or effective evolutions. We show how the same conditions can be used to solve the problem numerically, via supervised learning techniques. In turn, this allows us to solve problems that are not amenable, in general, to direct ana…
Generalized Browder’s Theorem and SVEP
2007
A bounded operator \(T \in L(X), X\) a Banach space, is said to verify generalized Browder’s theorem if the set of all spectral points that do not belong to the B-Weyl’s spectrum coincides with the set of all poles of the resolvent of T, while T is said to verify generalized Weyl’s theorem if the set of all spectral points that do not belong to the B-Weyl spectrum coincides with the set of all isolated points of the spectrum which are eigenvalues. In this article we characterize the bounded linear operators T satisfying generalized Browder’s theorem, or generalized Weyl’s theorem, by means of localized SVEP, as well as by means of the quasi-nilpotent part H0(λI − T) as λ belongs to certain …
A bounded version of bosonic creation and annihilation operators and their related quasi-coherent states
2007
Coherent states are usually defined as eigenstates of an unbounded operator, the so-called annihilation operator. We propose here possible constructions of {\em quasi-coherent states}, which turn out to be {\em quasi} eigenstate of a \underline{bounded} operator related to an annihilation-like operator. We use this bounded operator to construct a sort of modified harmonic oscillator and we analyze the dynamics of this oscillator from an algebraic point of view.
Ultrarelativistic bound states in the spherical well
2016
We address an eigenvalue problem for the ultrarelativistic (Cauchy) operator $(-\Delta )^{1/2}$, whose action is restricted to functions that vanish beyond the interior of a unit sphere in three spatial dimensions. We provide high accuracy spectral datafor lowest eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of this infinite spherical well problem. Our focus is on radial and orbital shapes of eigenfunctions. The spectrum consists of an ordered set of strictly positive eigenvalues which naturally splits into non-overlapping, orbitally labelled $E_{(k,l)}$ series. For each orbital label $l=0,1,2,...$ the label $k =1,2,...$ enumerates consecutive $l$-th series eigenvalues. Each of them is $2l+1$-degenerate. …
An extension of Guo's theorem via k--contractive retractions
2006
Abstract Let X be a infinite-dimensional Banach space. We generalize Guo's Theorem [D.J. Guo, Eigenvalues and eigenvectors of nonlinear operators, Chinese Ann. Math. 2 (1981) 65–80 [English]] to k- ψ -contractions and condensing mappings, under a condition which depends on the infimum k ψ of all k ⩾ 1 for which there exists a k- ψ -contractive retraction of the closed unit ball of the space X onto its boundary.
Effect of amorphous sequences on the longitudinal acoustic modes in partially crystalline polymers. I. Transfer matrix method
1983
A novel theoretical scheme is developed which enables the determination of the LAM-like vibrations of polymer chains made up of crystalline and amorphous parts as they occur in partially crystalline structures. The boundary conditions effective at the junction points are formulated in terms of the compliances of the associated amorphous sequences. These compliances can be derived from their eigenfrequencies and eigenvectors in a disconnected state. The treatment uses a matrix formalism which can be extended to include bending and torsional motions in a general state of vibration of the crystalline stem. A first numerical example demonstrates that the LA mode of a crystalline stem can be str…
On the classification of type D space–times
2002
We give a classification of the type D spacetimes based on the invariant differential properties of the Weyl principal structure. Our classification is established using tensorial invariants of the Weyl tensor and, consequently, besides its intrinsic nature, it is valid for the whole set of the type D metrics and it applies on both, vacuum and non-vacuum solutions. We consider the Cotton-zero type D metrics and we study the classes that are compatible with this condition. The subfamily of spacetimes with constant argument of the Weyl eigenvalue is analyzed in more detail by offering a canonical expression for the metric tensor and by giving a generalization of some results about the non-exi…
About the reliability, efficiency, and meaning of the error estimates of a LAOCOON3-type NMR analysis system
1977
Abstract The statistical error estimates of a LAOCOON3-type system are tested. The analyzabilities of a spectrum and spectral parameters are described by a new measure. The variation in the uncertainties of the parameters can be explained by correlation coefficients. According to the calculations made, the error estimates are normally quite reliable if the accuracy of the observed spectrum is known. In some cases the Newton-Raphson type of iteration does not converge or the confidence limits of the parameters are enormous or both; an example is discussed. It seems clear that one cannot avoid differing uncertainties of the parameters by changing the method of analysis, or that one can avoid …
Interior Eigenvalue Density of Jordan Matrices with Random Perturbations
2017
International audience; We study the eigenvalue distribution of a large Jordan block subject to a small random Gaussian perturbation. A result by E. B. Davies and M. Hager shows that as the dimension of the matrix gets large, with probability close to 1, most of the eigenvalues are close to a circle. We study the expected eigenvalue density of the perturbed Jordan block in the interior of that circle and give a precise asymptotic description.; Nous étudions la distribution de valeurs propres d’un grand bloc de Jordan soumis à une petite perturbation gaussienne aléatoire. Un résultat de E. B. Davies et M. Hager montre que quand la dimension de la matrice devient grande, alors avec probabilité…
